Diff Drop Question

ha, just noticed it was a 1st gen. Might have something to do with it.

 

5/6th notch. All parts was ~16-1700. Paid $575 to a guy I know... but a stealership get ready to easily pay double that.

 

$575 is a decent/avg shop price

 

For full suspension/UCAs/ECGS bushing and full leaf pack install? IDK man, where I am... thats like half price.

 

I'm talking about just suspension and leafs install. UCAs may cost more.
I got my entire lift installed for $500 with UCAs by a REAL 4x4 shop
ECGS: $150 (4Wheelparts are idiots I will NEVER go there again)...I had to help them install because they couldn't get the CV out

 

Wow thats pretty good. I don't have any 4x4 shops around me so these guys were the next best thing. I know for a fact the stealership would charge double that. Probably triple. I'm in New England.

 

Whoa! New England. Id say you got a decent deal.
Never go to a dealership for a lift install. Half of the staff in dealerships don't know what they are doing. I have one guy at one dealership I go to for everything.

 

I'm actually taking it in soon for the 15k service. They all love my truck and added shims for me (which i got raped on, but hey I figured its also guaranteed not to vibe). I was gonna ask how much to do the diff drop but it seems way too easy to pay for.

 

it is pretty easy if you have a socket set and floor jack, or if no floor jack, do one side at a time

 

so the diff doesn't come crashing down on my face? And I don't have a floor jack. Should get one though. I watched an install video and the dude needed a breaker bar. Do I need a big-@ss torque wrench or just good n tight?

 

its best to have a floor jack if you are going to own a truck. Visit Harbor Freight if you got one

 

It might, but even on the 1st gen forums the diff drops are a big debate, lots of people say to do it and others say not to lol. I have Kings up front

 

I think about 4-5 people with my size lift and third gen 4x4s all said it helped with the boot and angles so I think I'll be trying the drop. Thanks everyone!

Oh and if anyone has any suggestions on which drop kit to buy.. i'm all ears. Seems to be different ones.

 

I think we meant more on the affect it had on changing the CV angles and boot issues compared to first gen.

 

I think I saw that when I dropped the diff, the skid plate was rubbing against it. That was 2 years ago, but I remember having to drop it by quite a fair distance.

They’re all the same. Just a 1” aluminum spacer that goes between the frame crossmember and the diff mounts. And of course longer bolts.

 

Installed this yesterday, as my inner CV boots were very close to touching. What a complete wast of time & money.

I had about .03” of boot clearance before, that’s the thickness of a credit card. I would say it was .05” max or less after the install, (which may have been due to unloading the suspension for 30 mins) removed 30 mins later. A true waste of time & money, it was the 1” from TT.
