going to see -40° windchills this weekend:canada:
Hope to get some shots of the upcoming eclipse, but my camera battery and toes just don't last very long in this cold.

I hate snow anymore at my age. But that is just plain beautiful, and fantastic job! Yeah spare batteries inside the jacket under the armpit gets old LOL. Sunday night partly cloudy and below zero (Fahrenheit LOL). But it is the only blood moon of the year. Partly cloudy means partially clear too...

Was sitting here at work and remembered I had my tripod in the truck. For a good while now the ball head lock on the head wouldn't;t lock anymore. I was having to use the tension knob torqued down to hold the camera in place. Well I decided to fix it or break it. Come to find out if you unscrew the lock knob just a hair too much there is a tiny piece that falls out inside the head and it won't lock anymore. Took the lock knob out and shook it till it fell out. Put it back on the end of the screw and it works like new again. :woot:

    Pics.

    mending is better than spending!

    thanks!
no spare battery, and it's old.. i can get about 5 or 6 long exposure shots between armpit rotations.. I've managed to get a few gems, but usually i just get to where the right shot is taking shape and my fingers start to feel warm again(bad bad).. somehow the shutterbug in me is most active when the mercury drops..

Agree. Buying good gear means it can usually be fixed.

Now I need a travel tripod. :bananadead:

i was going to say, that looks a beast, wouldn't want to pack that around through the bush or up a mountain.. I need something heavier, somewhere between my current origami tripod, and a telescope stand like that

If I remember right that one holds like 13 lbs with the 055xprob tripod combo. It's stout for sure and exactly what I wanted when I ordered it a few years ago. I also wanted one that would be eye level without extending the center portion. It's a pain when flying because I have to put it in checked baggage and that was a $75 charge last time. If I had not taken the tripod I could have gotten away with all carry on. I really love it though because you can drop it pretty much to the ground for low angle shots.

Yeah, it's a cool feature. My camera is 6.5 lbs and it's rock solid with it. Buy once cry once.

Did I mention I have like 3 tripods? Don't do that.

You won't be disappointed with it and it's great for time exposures. I went to ball heads a few years ago and don't see myself going back to a regular head. Easy to adjust when you need to move the camera just a hair.

My submission for the week. I really want to invest in a macro lens. Tomorrow my camera will be honed in on the Moon! Hopefully the clouds will clear out.
