Kicker Solo-Baric 8" L5/L7

Looking at putting 2-3 of these in a sub box behind my rear seats. Anyone ever done it, if so hows the mounting and how do they sound? I like these because its something a little different and i like how these particular subs look! Also the mount depth is around 4.75 in. I've been checking into enclosures for DC trucks and most have a depth of 5 to 5 3/8 in.

Reviews say they sound about like a 10" due to the square design so if i can stick 3 of these bad boys in my taco it should be about like 3 10s....


Any ideas comments concerns are much appreciated!

 

Well i can tell you the 10's sound like 12's. They are good subs

 

the only problem with solos is airspace. i have a l5 8 in a ported box that hits like a 12 but thats all becase of how much airspace it has if you have too little airspace they sound muffled just an fyi

 

I had a Kicker L7 10". It was pretty nice. I have a Massive DMX carbon 12" in my Tacoma now. Hits 3 times harder.

 

IMO, I'd look at other options. Granted, the only install I've ever heard a solobaric in was mediocre at best, I've always felt like they were all about getting loud, and less about being clear.

In the drivers defense, sound is mostly install, so take it for what it's worth, but if you ask me, for the money there are better options.

I have been told that the solobarics dont need as much space but need more watts to sounds good... so could i run a single 10 in a ported box that stretches all the way across the back of my 03 double cab? behind the seat of course.

 

I'm running a single Solo S8L7 in a .35 cft Q-logic truck box (can't buy these anymore). I had this sub in my last truck where rear wall room was tighter than in the Tacoma. I moved it to the Taco after I bought it.

My comments are:
o you need to power the sh-crap out of it to get a reason bass level (small sealed box, stiff sub), I have run between 300 and 450W to it.
o even then, it's not as clear a bass as a 10in round single (Alpine) I had prior, which required only half the power
o was in a sealed box (prefer SQ over SPL), no experience with ported applications
o ported box may give better bass, but didn't have room for a ported box in last truck
o considering moving back to a single round 10 now that I have some space options in the Tacoma

Overall, the S8L7 met my needs in the last truck and does a reasonable job in the Tacoma. Last truck didn't offer me any reasonable $$$ options to do anything different, .35cft box was pretty much the limit without going to a custom box. So I invested a bit more in a higher powered amp and moved on.

As I said though, I am considering updating the Tacoma to a single sealed 10, just haven't done it yet.
