When I was shopping for my new 3GT, my internal debate was whether I should drop $45K on a TRD Pro and "be happy" or spend $35K on a TRD OR, add $10K in mods, and "be happy"

I chose the TRD OR, and I just hit the $10K in mods mark, so here's the list of what I was able to achieve:

Front and rear bumpers from TJM
    12,000lb Smittybilt Winch
    Rock Sliders from RRW
    Roof Rack from Warrior

Odyssey 34 main battery, VMAX 31 house battery (125ah) with RedArc 40a charger (game changer!!)
    1000w house AC inverter
    Propane hot water system + pump/shower head/controls/etc
    Trigger Six-Shooter wireless-controlled PDM
Blue Sea power distribution up front, and in house section
Loads of LED lighting for driving and camping
    Dometic fridge + Yeti cooler

    Smittybilt Roof-Top Tent
Hot-Metal Fab bed rack + Hi-lift, shovel, and axe

    5x 33.3" tires (Cooper AT3 XLT 295/75/16)

    TRD/Bilsten 6112/5160 suspension kit
    SPC adjustable UCA's
    OME Dakar Heavy leafs
    1.25" spidertrax spacers

And a few other small items I am forgetting...

So, which would you take if you had $45K to spend. A stock TRD Pro or my build??

You made a great choice, the Pro would of took another 10k to get what you need and want in a truck. Had you bought a Pro and left it stock you wouldn’t of been happy for very long.

Also would like to point out that my truck stickered at 38,500, but I paid 35K on the nose. I also think my sticker value for the TRD Pro is "conservative" at $45K. I have heard of them stickering for $52K+, but the one I saw recently at my dealer was $49K. Either way, the $10K difference seems to be the norm

I have saw 2 in person, both were 49k. The ones some post on here have that 10k extra “tax”on them and they list for 60k.

$60K for a stock Taco would lead to severe butt-pain. The mind boggles at what $25K in mods would get compared to a marked-up Pro.

2017. Bought new in December of 17. 18's were on the lot, but I didn't want any of the new-fangled safety sensors.

The Pro as you still have the ugly OR wheels. I would do a Certified 17 Pro instead of either.

I happen to like them, but when it comes down to spending money on wheels, my hard-earned dollars will go towards Method 701's, or Volk TE37's if I'm having a particularly lucrative month.

I think the Tacoma Pro shiny black turd wheels are among the most hated wheels to ever be outfitted to a Tacoma. I don’t think I’m alone on this either... the 4Runner Pro on the other hand has great wheels...

It's a no-brainer...you can get a customized taco with more upgrades that are fitted for your lifestyle. Nice job.

My MOST hated are the Trail Teams wheels. Talk about bland.

True but I would take the Pro wheels over the OR as they are wider. $10 grand spent & still on narrow OR wheels makes no sense.

It's all about spending money where it counts. Obviously, with a build like this I plan to run 34-37" tires. I will get suitable aftermarket wheels when the time comes. In the meantime, I can wheel this hard, and there is no wasted money.

Very nice setup you have there!

I would take your truck x1000.

For the same $$$ as a Pro you have a more capable vehicle.

I also personally like the stock OR wheels.

    Ok...Thanks sorry for rebuttal

    So apples to apples..

I bought my 2017 Cement Pro for 42200...no markup

    I’m ok with my choice

    Cheers

So as an extreme case (hypothetically speaking), with your Pro at $42K and my OR without discounts at $38.5K, the difference is much narrower. If the purchasing difference had been that narrow in my area, I definitely would have had a much tougher decision to make. At this hypothetical $4k difference, we're basically asking ourselves if the Fox suspension and 8" rims are worth $4K.

Dude!! You have a sweet rig! Definitely make a valid point. I would never pay over sticker for any vehicle tho. I would hate to make someone feel bad for their decision but 10k over msrp is ridiculous. In NC where I am they are msrp. I love my pro, but not sure I don’t like your OR better

Not to be pedantic, but if we are to make this, as you say, "apples to apples", how much did that Roof Rack, RTT, and bed rack add to your $42.2K?
