Transmission Pan Constant Leak

    That is the correct red FIPG, I wonder if they cleaned both mating surfaces..

    Just wonder if they over torqued the bolts, 39 in lbs is barely tight, doesnt appear the sealant is mashed out too bad though... I will say the bottom side of my pan stays a bit oily due to a tiny amount of oil leaking back from the oil cooler and running down the front of the tranny then blowing back landing on the pan as i drive... I know you stated before what you are seeing in the pic is red in color and def trans fluid..

    Im guessing not good enough leaving a small amount of residue. And probably filling too soon before it sets completely.
    Yes, it is 100% tranny fluid as it’s red when I wipe a paper towel over the seam.
    The engine itself as of now has no oil leaks at all.

    OME Coils/Bilstein 5100's front / 5125's rear 105 Amp Denso Alternator
    It can be confusing on whether you need just the FIPG or a gasket. I looked online and some part sites show with a gasket and some do not. I finally emailed Gary (TW member gunny 1005) and ordered from him.
    He stated that my '03 PreRunner 3.4 did not take a gasket but only used the red FIPG.

    Hope you get it figured out.

    Another update
    So brought truck back “again” so dealer is aware of pan still seeping. I can’t leave it with what I have spent between both shops now, this one being the dealer.

    They kept it for a day, said only oil they saw on it they believe to be was residual fluid.
    I say not true because I KNOW it was bone dry when I got it back and kept checking it until I saw it seeping again about 1k miles in when I did a routine engine oil change. And if it was residual, they already messed up because they were supposed to clean the surface and prep it so the gasket maker would seal. So if it was wet from before... OBVIOUSLY they didn’t do it right. So that was kind of just an excuse I was given I feel... and I don’t think they realize what they said and how that would mean they initially didn’t do it right.

    So...

    I insisted that NO, you guys need to figure it out because I know for a fact it’s OBVIOSULY still seeping out and I don’t want to just leave it to where a year is up and then it starts actually leaking again. It would no longer be covered by the shop after dropping all this money.
    Shop said okay and that they have two techs now looking at this, kept it for another day drove it with no certainty that its seaping or where it’s coming from still. Kinda sounded like they think it is but not really sure...
    So I was told the tech put dye in it and that I need to keep an eye on it and bring it back in about 1k miles and they’ll take a black light to it.
    Tech suspects that there could be a seal above the pan that could be leaking and wants to confirm. My advisor said that that is what it could be but yes it could be the pan too still.
    I’m picking truck up today knowing that YES I will be back again for this issue a 3rd time at the dealer. I believe this will be the 7th time total bringing truck back and forth between both shops just for the transmission pan.

    This continues to blow my mind at such a simple thing and how long it’s taking to ACTUALLY fix this issue.
    All while I know I will be needing To do the timing belt and all applicable seals and such that will be well over a grand that I’m trying to prepare for.

    Seal above the pan.....I see nothing but o-rings above and that wouldn't cause a leak that bad.

    Yeah, I see nothing as well too. Pretty sure there just saying so I go through the process of confirming for them that it is the pan.

    Just got home with the truck. Pan is completely dry again as it looks like they cleaned up all the oil again in the creases where the pan meets the transmission.
    They said they used a dye labeled MT3102 and to check and come back in another 500 miles or if it’s wet looking again on the seems. I am certain that it will be again.
    I also checked the dipstick and can see the die that they did add. I don’t know it’s color but Definitly gave the transmission oil a strange color of like goldish brown vs the darker red that it was. Maybe it will eventually mix in and not look so strange.

    Now I just wait again...
    Hopefully the dye doesn’t have a negative affect on my transmission leaving it in there as it really did affect the color pretty drastically. Granted, it might not be really fully mixed in on the 10 mile drive back home yet.

    Yeah, they have to clean it up and have it written down that they cleaned it up. Hopefully it leaks so they can locate it.

    I’m certain it will seap through again shortly.
    And yes, service advisor is thankfully being real with me so far being understanding with the issue. Basically says he believes me with what I’m saying but it’s a process they have to do to confirm unfortunately.
