you would have to change the wood type to get it to look like that IMO.

Ok, would there be anyway to darken it?

For other applications you'd have to remove/sand the poly finish down till you are down to wood. They have tints you can add to stains but I wouldnt DIY...

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
I would try it in an inconspicuous area like a closet if you can.

You'll have to go down to the bare wood as @wilcam47 noted. Here is a blue stain that will probably be close to one of your pictures.

If you don't have an inconspicuous place try it out on you can find a maple cutting board and try that.

You can darken anything you want, it's just going to take time, patience, and some coin.

I would venture to guess hickory also (with wilcam47) due to the amount of light/dark contrast. Don't think maple would have that much. I like it as is!!!

I was also told at times back in the 60's and earlier, some floors were 'mix and match' as regard to species.....if it was a hardwood (oak, ash, hickory, maple) it may have been mixed together. My hardwood floors (1963 era house) look to be a mix of species.

I've got maple that is grey.
I've been using General Finishes Arm-R-seal lately. It's become my go to for smaller projects.

I know a gunsmith that does thats as far as I go...I have a Huglu shotgun that has a "checked" piece in it. I say "checked" because Ive shot it a number of times and it hasnt completely broken. Thats the only one I would consider making a stock for. Other than that I wouldnt personally carve a stock for my stuff.

that should be easy fix I'd think. The metal clip should be secured somehow or taken out and get the right measurements for the wood. I dont know how the metal clip is secured in the grip you have.

I'd start with the block of wood, then find the correct sized router bit, route the groove first then trim the excess off to match the original piece

if you dont have a router...time to get one ;), It would be easier to control as a block of wood, match the groove and attachment points then round the excess material off

I can check with my local gunsmith guy. Hes got tons of stuff he works on. He probably has one in his stock pile somewhere. It might take a few days for me to get a hold of him, because its almost a sign counter sign getting a hold of him.;)
