Thanks. Kept looking around on here during the swap. Figured I'd join in after I finished. Now I have a few cosmetics I'd like to change up. Always a project lol

Ha @Titus94 my specs were right for the torque hahah

I had a feeling the calipers were machined off spec.

Rebuilt the brakes all around. New drums and rotors. The drums were about an eighth of an inch beyond discard. Pads out back looked brand new, just had a lot of contamination. Used a can of brake clean on each side, have them nice and dry now. All the hardware looks good as well, so I am rolling the dice here, but not to the extent of danger. Now the front brakes, it was damn sure time for them to be done. Pads were worn almost to the backing plates, though the rotors didn't look horrible. I didn't bother micing them out, as I was able to get new ones cheaply. Did them yesterday, and had an immediate improvement in braking.

Almost! Three of the four attachment points line up. If I'm not mistaken, it is the outside front mount that is flat on 4R, and at 45 degrees on Tacoma.

Having driven the truck since the above post... the only difference between driving it with new front brakes yesterday (itself a huge improvement) and just now being that I replaced the rear drums with new, and cleaned the hell out of the rear shoes- holy hell, have i got brakes now! Also, the parking brake doesn't come out nearly as far, and grabs much harder. Don't think I will have to be all "belt and suspenders" on hills, and leave it with parking brake engaged and in gear

Now if I can just find this brake leak I've had since I bought it. It's just possible that it was a matter of over-excurding the wheel cylinders out back, and leaking fluid that way, due to the rear drums being about 3/16 beyond their discard diameter. I should note that everything inside the drum was soaked in fluid. It wasn't water and didn't smell like gear lube. I sprayed each side down with 2 cans of brake clean, getting all the trash out. So far it seems to have worked quite well. If I still have a leak, I guess next thing to do is replace the wheel cylinders.

    Busy weekend...

    1. Installed my (new to me) Sony XAV-AX200 headunit. Bought it used off eBay for half the price of new, no scratches and so far so good.

    2. Installed a backup camera from a Amazon. Still need to figure out the location, current location is tucked between the tailgate and rear bumper. I like that it’s somewhat hidden, but camera view isn’t great.

    3. Installed an Access LiteRider roll up tonneau cover. Kinda a PIA to install. Had to cut away some of the bed liner and trim a very small amount of the side rails off as it was too long. Overall though very happy with the look and functionality.

    4. Bought a set of 4Runner 5 star wheels off Facebook marketplace. Need to figure out if I keep the OEM paint color or go a little bit darker (looking at Rustoleum Metallic Dark Steel). Maybe be asking for some second opinions in the coming days.

    I have mods
Finished up the wiring for the air compressor and got it all working. Fills an aired down tire from 13psi to 26psi in about 5 minutes. I'm good with that.

And we had an amazing moon rise out here in Tucson tonight. Crappy cell phone picture, makes me wish I had a real camera.

what does that do? lock up the wheel? I had a shot wheel bearing on the freeway once but luckily noticed something wasn't right and got into a shop before it got worse. Was grinding like crazy and even made it so the front brakes got really sketchy.

Does the 3rd gen 4runner front seats mount tour trucks? Or are the different?

Went with a machine gray on the front metal bumper. Rattle can. Really didn't plan on investing in paint. I already wish I put a lot more layers (maybe 2 cans at least) but it's much better than what it was previously.

I should have took a before and after but I didn't think it would come out this nice.

yikes...I wish I could've seen what mine looked like, but I was on my way up to my wedding in Santa Cruz that weekend and only had time to drop the truck off and barely time to pick it up late the next day, lol. I got really lucky it didn't leave me stranded along the 5 freeway somewhere between LA and Sacramento, happened right as I got into Santa Cruz.

The freaky part was having the front brakes suddenly only work at about 10% capacity. The first 3 hours of the drive were completely normal and it went from normal to hell in a handbasket in all of maybe 20 miles. There may have been grinding sounds happening before that I couldn't hear over the road noise being on the highway for so long.
