Lots of possible campsites. @3pooches is camping allowed outside of designated spots? There are many honor pay primitive sites but if your like me any slightly clear opening is a "good" campsite.

Granted it was my first trip but it seemed there was a trail for any difficulty level. Some of the stuff we did caused some damage to non high clearance bumpers. I was told there are more difficult trails...! Cant wait to go back!

I don’t believe so but there are some spots that are more remote than others. There a single spot on an out and back trial that’s on top of a ridge and far from everything else

She'll be 6 in April. She's a hoot to take off-roading she's learning from the best to be an instigator and shit talker. But she loves camping and getting outside. I am hoping to keep that as long as I can. Hell she survived Morris Mtn. in low 30s during the night which was impressive to me.

Some of my fondest memories are camping as a young child.

Nothing beats trying to pull a pop-up camper up a steep muddy hill with 4 kids in a 2wd Astro van!

Or that time we got stuck in a canoe on the river and tornado sirens were going off and my parents dragged us kids out of the river and up under a bridge just in time for the tornado to go over the top of us.

    Those are the best times!

:rofl:dad took us camping off the rappahannock when we were kids in a astro van. We had to cross the stream at one point and water was coming into the van. No wonder I now own a snorkel:thumbsup:

My parents only took us camping once. I got my fix in Scouts. I have some wild stories from those trips and a handful of some cool pictures. One that tested us was a backpacking trip on the AT. One of the guys went to get a pic on a big ol' boulder leaned against a tree that was dead. It broke he fell 20+ ft to the ground that had rock all over it. Ended up breaking his leg, arm, and cracking a couple of ribs. Boy got lucky. We had to make a stretcher and carry his as like 10 miles give or take to the closest road crossing and get him to our chase vehicle and to the hospital. This was before the time of cell phones being common place, reliable, or not just a bag in the car so he could of been in some deep shit really quickly.

I never had parents that took me camping when I was young nor did my wife. I had plenty of time in tents when I was in the Army though and with 17 years of us being Girl Scout leaders we did our share of it also. My wife even became one of the outdoor ed teachers for the service unit while I did the archery training. She would have been happy to stay in tents but with my health issues it just wasn’t practical. Since we got our tiny camper we have had a blast. Just to get away from home and all the things that “need” to get done and relax. We are trying to move more into the off grid camping hence making the camper self sufficient. It’s just fun for us even if it’s just getting away to a close by campground like Matthews Arm up on Skyline drive. Yeah a lot is campgrounds but we meet some cool people. A lot of the places you still have to be basically self sufficient as the only amenities are a bathroom. We want to get out and away more but, for now, until I learn more about recovery and we gather some more experience I feel more comfortable if we go along with James or somebody in case something happens. We are getting there and the equipment is slowly evolving into what we need. No matter where we go, with the exception of one place, we have fun and relax. To me, that is all that matters I don’t care if others approve of how or where we camp.

I'm slowly getting mine and the kiddos camping gear to be more "glamping" rather than "roughing" it. Looking at getting one of those Gazelle tents 4 person pop up tents and a couple of cots and some other "luxury" camping gear. There is something to be said about being comfortable camping and having a good time rather than suffering through it.

Yes Sir, to me, if I’m not going to be comfortable and enjoy myself I’ll just stay home. I’m in no way saying I need a 46’ pull behind like a buddy has just very basic but comfortable

O man you reminded me of my first boy scout jamboree. The badass of the group sprayed himself in the eye with bugspray. He cried for about an hour and had to go home. In the middle of the night someone discovered a spider in the bathroom and screamed like a girl. Haven't thought about that in years!!!
I remember my dad telling me I had to use an outhouse when camping. I went in and those little bugs that leave their exoskeleton were all over the placeo_O:rofl::annoyed:I was like O hell no and went and pooped in the river:anonymous:

What was the place you didnt have a good time ?

I camped in chincoteague around July 4th this year. The nighttime lows were 88 degrees. I got so dehydrated I had to fall out of my rtt to get some water in me. I will never do that again.

Jamboree was a great time but my favorite trips were going to Philmont twice. The last time I went the week before we got there 2 kids decided to have a spray deodorant fight in their tent. Well needless to say a curious grizzly made them an example of why you don't do that. Sad for the families but definitely a reminder that mother nature will kick your ass and you have to be on your A game out in the backwoods like that. That same trip we ran into a heard of Elk and had a Mtn Lion come through our campsite it was pretty epic. Also me and one of the guys in my crew got into a fist fight in front of our sister crew that just looked at our crew like we were a bunch of dysfunctional hoodlums.

It was a campground rt on the New River just outside. Blacksburg. If we would have had a spot next to the river it would have been nicer but there was a train track running rt through the campground. Trains ran all through the night and day we counted one had 270 cars. Coal trains mainly. We were there more to move our daughter out of her apartment so we camped instead of a hotel and then the camper and truck became a uhAul for the trip home

Giles county just outside of Parisburg? I have fished there many times.. my dog decided my rooster tail looked like a toy and I had to hand over 280 of my hard earned $ to the local vet. My mother / father in law lived close by.
