Classic design on those old A4s. That 1.8T was a dog, but the other engines were good.

I had the 12v 2.8, nobody would believe that car was a 1997. Especially lowered with the RS4 reps. Extremely reliable too, in 140k miles it never had needed anything besides wear items.

The only issue with the 12v 2.8 was that there weren't any ECU tunes/turbo options.

That gen A4 is my favorite. Oh yeah you had a lot more going on than just the clutch.

You never got into the depths that is the VW/Audi fanatics realm then. I took my old mechanical injected 92 2.0 16v GTI put EFI on it and had a MoTec controlling it. Along with a bunch of other goodies. I bet there was it was just someone that was very descreet. You gotta go to waterfest and meets like that and then you'll meet the diehards that'll know exacly where to go. VW/Audi is a lot like the DSM crowd.

My sister used to have a vr6 when I was in high school. That thing could get you into trouble as a 16 year old

I assure you I have gone into those depths. I did a whole lot more on friends cars. I've worked on probably 10+ VW/Audis over the last few years, I still help my friends out with them even though I only have the Tacoma now. Never was into 70% of the owners though, I hate the stancenation stuff.

Oh I was into this in the somewhat early days back in the 90s. There was a lot going on back then. The stance thing started back in the late 90s from the European style crowd. Most of the purists hated it.

    Oh, gotcha.

Clean, subtle and functional was my big trifecta. I prefer OEM+ and some nice wheels.

My GTI ended up turning into a Road course and AutoX car (before it was AutoX). It still looked rather subdued from the exterior very stockish minus being lowered on some custom 3 piece BBS wheels and some other minor exterior mods.

Yes! The first car I bought myself was a 2000 GTI VR6... Way too much car for a 17 year old but I loved it. Kept that until I upgraded to a 2004 R32. Both great cars.

I went to AutoZone to get some parts, when I gave the salesman all the info and said manual, he paused and looked at me and said "Wow, a Unicorn"
It was the only way I was buying the truck.
Is it too late to trade ?

The Vr6 was such an odd and fickle beast and very temperamental. I hated working on them.

Have you had the pleasure of having to tinker with a W8?

Absolutely.. loved both of them. The R32 sounded awesome... R32 was my favorite car that I have had to date and I still kick my ass for selling it. I had H&R coilovers, front and rear sway bars, eip cai, miltek exhaust, shrick cams, giac tune and upgraded haldex and was on 19" OZ ultraleggera wheels. Still mad.

Ooooof, that's all the good stuff right there. I always wanted Ultraleggeras for my A6.

Run as fast as you can is all I can say. I have and it was a nightmare. I was hunting electrical gremlins. That thing was crammed in the engine bay. They are cool as shit and I love the innovation but damn they did some hokey stuff with them.
