Kind of like my front end clunk/pop when I pull out of my parking space and turn the wheel. Dealership said, "I know a new truck is not suppose to make that noise but just drive it."

I started to get my roof wrapped so I would not have to get in my bed or on a step stool to wash/wax it. The black 2016 SR5 I had I even thought about getting the roof and hood Line-X'ed so I would just have the sides and tailgate to wax. But I discovered McKee's 37 Hydro Blue coating and found there is no easier way to wax a truck. :)

That wrap sure has a glossy shine to it. Looks good!

Thank so much for the response!! This sound kicks on after a few minutes of starting the car. Most noticeable when car is in park or neutral. Does not turn off, and have definitely noted it to be louder and heard within the car. Dealership made me feel like a crazy person for voicing concerns about it, even though the other Tacoma’s and 4 cylinder cars they started for me did not make this same sound.

Wow, thanks so much for all the responses, you guys are all awesome! That video was definitely under the hood, but I can’t remember where I placed it. Just uploaded another video taken from drivers side, outside of the left front tire, this was recorded on day 2 of ownership, starts after a few minutes of being turned on and is always heard in park or neutral, can even sound louder at times.

    Mahalo for all your help!

    Thanks so much for response!
Yes definitely that ‘knocking’ sound, not the fan sound. Had Toyota dealer turn on another 4 cyl tacoma and definitely did not hear the knocking sound at all. They didn’t seem to care, just keep asking “is the check engine light on” “then nothing is wrong with your truck” and even turned on 3 or 4 other show vehicles with 4 cylinder engines and I also did not hear the same sound. I posted in the a different response, but this is the sound 48 hrs after owning, from left wheel well, more prominent on the left...

That last video sounds like a normal internal combustion engine to me.
When you listened to the other 4 cylinders on the lot, were the hoods raised?

What vehicle did you own before buying the Tacoma? What other vehicles have you owned?

Doesn't sound normal to me at all, I got 60K on my truck and it never made a noise like that!

My vote would be to just drive it. You are under warranty, if an issue exists, let it break and have the dealer fix it, but on that second video, I would have to agree with others, it sounds Ok.

I’m pretty sure I’ve posted my SR in this thread before but here it is after OME 885 springs and readjusting the 5100’s. Love my SR!

Hoods were down, just as mine was at the dealership. Listened in the same spot, outside of the left front tire.. did not make that background-‘knocking’ sound on any of their other vehicles. Husband owned a Chevy Colorado, that’s why we are reaching out to other Tacoma owners. Our neighbor has a 4 cyl Tacoma and his also does not make this same noise.

Oh dang! I stand corrected! We all know each truck is a little different. Mine barely cleared probably 2mm, hell theres a whole thread on this site where guys have hundreds of pics with stock tacos on skinnies! No doubt they would've rubbed off road or any bumps.

When your paying a local shop next to nothing to mount tires to see if they will clear knowing you werent buying them makes for a "get it done" kind of situation. Wasnt thinking of pics at all. Should've though! There is a thread on this sote dedicated to stock wheels on skinnies! Lots of pics there! In the end I didnt go with 255/85's ended up with Falken's 31.8" for $400 otd.

I guess your only option is to just drive it like epa4wd says. Dealer's not going to chase a sound without there being another issue. "Knocking" or a "ticking" could be as simple as a noisy alternator, who knows?

Yah, good call... car has currently been in dealership for 20 days trying to fix the charcoal canister valve that is ‘stuck open’... very curious to see if the knocking sound quiets down once we finally get the truck back.. thanks everyone who has responded!!
