Morning everyone. I have been having an issue last night and this morning. With the ice, i have to use 4 wheel to get started anywhere. I noticed last night and this morning that is seems like the driver front wheel is locked up when in 4x4. I was with my toddler kids, so i couldn't really assess things very well. Anyhow when i put it in 2 wheel it seems like the same tire has resistance, but it rolls. I have no idea what could be causing this, but my mind is thinking it has to be something kind of major. I was out Saturday in the rain, but i don't think Ice is the issue here.

    CV Axle?
No clicking when I turn, boot looked good when i took a brief look.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was also thinking this as well. It has 85,000 so getting to the time when it is possible for one of those to go. I'm not really mechanically inclined by not a complete ID10T either.

I know if you jack it up you check them, I am thinking it is there should be no movement top to bottom on the wheel. The only way i know when they are going bad is by the howling going down the road. Unfortunately, i can't hear anything over my tires.

I will have to see if i can get it up on a Jack after work and see what happens. I have a follow up question as i feel like this is the most likely cause for my issue. I have seen that a few people sell the pressed hub assemblies here. Are they worth getting or stick with OEM? Also replace one or just buck up and replace both at the same time.

Hey, here's another 4x4 question. I'm a bit of a noob to 4wheel stuff. Is it normal that when I'm in 4 wheel (high or low, happens on both) that when I'm going slow speeds its jerky and clunky when cornering at slow speeds? I've just assumed it as normal to the Tacoma but figured I'd ask?

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
I don't think there is anything wrong with your truck. The power wheel is the right side. If that wheel is slipping, you will not get power to the left side and the left wheel will not spin.

Front drive shafts binding while turning. Try not turning the wheel to full lock when In 4wd.

Normal it binds up a bit. I try to avoid full lock turns, if you have the room make a bigger circle and it helps. But it isn't anything to worry about.

When i say the wheel will not spin, i mean it feels like the other 3 are dragging it. This happens in forward or reverse. There is a definitely resistance. It isn't free spinning or even close.

With that being said, I really hope you are right. I hate trying to fix things, because I usually have to learn how to do it in the process. Fuck it up a couple times, figure it out, then do it the right way.

I've had tacomas all my life, but I have never built one or really worked on them. I am pretty familiar with how they handle though, and this something i have never dealt with before.

Awesome, thanks for all the feedback guys. Sometimes in life just having the reassurance on what is "normal" is so helpful.

I am no longer a fan of this weather.

It's even cold in the station, and I just bumped the heater up to 70* (after finding the heater was actually off)

Final question about the possible bad wheel bearing. I work doubles the next few days. What are the odds of it completely failing? I drive bit for work, and the harley isn't making a trip this time of year. I have heard them go bad before and they were pretty loud. I don't hear anything over the tires, but the tires make a decent amount of road noise.

I always thought ice fishing was pretty neat but like someone else had mentioned fear of falling through the ice. Hope you’re staying warm. It’s brutal out there.

I've got 15 single pane windows to do (luckily I have storm windows so I don't seem to have a draft problem), and a sliding glass door that doesn't seem to seal very well. If I have the funds I'm doing them this spring/summer.

But I have a heated detached garage so it's worth it imo.
