    I would think that a lower profile rack would sit lower and possibly work better aerodynamics wise as it's not sticking up over the cab in the wind. Maybe...?

    The wife approved the purchase of a RTT, so that means I need a rack and being a hands on guy I rather build my own then buy off the shelf. And my idea is to have the the RTT sit no more than 6 to 8 inches above the cab.

    Enough for some extra room under the rack, but yet can still use a future cab roof rack as a fairing for the tent..

    My question, is there an average thickness to a stowed RTT that can be used as a good baseline, or is it all brand and model dependent?

    They have some that are slimmer than others. im not an rtt guy though. i have a camper shell and that is my home on the trails :anonymous:
