Just got a 05 Tacoma TRD and noticed a little vibration from about 30-45 mph so checked my u-joints and it looks like the rear one has been replaced not to long ago middle one looks OK but the front one looks a little rough and maybe a little slop in it. So looks like this weekend I'll need to change it and I guess my question is if I have the rear on blocks will I lose any fluid out of the tranny (auto) and is that just a slip yoke that pulls out of the tranny.?

Also how do you know if the carrier bearing is bad?
Anything else I need to know its been awhile since I've changed u-joints but
don't feel like getting hosed at a shop.

    Thanks

Well, if it makes you feel any better: For the last 22,000 miles, I've had a 3" lift and have the same vibration. I have gotten used to the fact that I am not driving a $70,000 truck and I've changed it's geometry. No worries by me.

You could go to a drive-line shop - they'll say they will start balancing and replacing pieces and you may get rid of it and you may not.

    Hope that helped.

Well mine is a stock setup and I'm not super worried about the vibration but the front u-joint still needs to be changed. I cant help thinking about that post a couple days ago where the guys driveline let go and looked like it took a piece of tranny with it. Trying to avoid that...

The loss of ATF is minimal, about 1/8 of a quart. I didn't bother topping it up after changing my front u-joint and that was about 15k miles ago.

Yeah! How 'bout it! What the hell cost him $2,000 as a smokin' deal - a Currie rear end?

    Thank you

I think the carrier bearing seems ok, is it supposed to wiggle around a bit.?
