I bought several an coated with paint. Won't do much but may afford a small amount of rust prevention

Buy the stainless ones, I tried those black ones and even added my own paint and they still rusted, and like said above they fit 2nd and 3rd.

Coming to this thread a wee bit late but I picked up a 6 pack the other month for $17 and have had zero issues so far.

I went stainless screws and stainless nuts because the first set I ordered rusted pretty quick.

You should get the stainless or aluminum versions, I had the regular steel ones and painted them but they still rusted.

I gave them each a good coat of Rust-Oleum I had laying around. I dont plan on moving them too much so the coating wont be getting rubbed off. I'll keep an eye on them but for the time being, we are looking good.

Something to keep in mind is that stainless steel is an alloy of carbon steel that is by itself resistant to corrosion.

But stainless steel is reactive with aluminium, and when a stainless steel screw is in contact with an aluminum base metal, the aluminum is likely to corrode and fuse the metals.

Yeah good point, I used stainless bolts and washers too so I won't have any dissimilar metal corrosion.

Black oxide is a weak protectant, in my experience they rust easily.
If you can find some stainless I'd pay the extra $$$ and save any headaches.

Come to think about it I made a few of these in the past out of aluminum.
Aluminum is great also, doesn't rust but it's not as strong as Steel or Stainless
Good for most applications, even Softtoppers have aluminum T-nuts
I may still have the CNC program I used.

Yep. This is to test a few things . See how it rides. Making extensions so my boxes can clear my tri-fold soft tonneau. Saw the ammo can storage boxes and decided to have them at lower level with a swing out hinged bracket attached. I’m trying to make a version that sits
1-1.5” beneath the rail and just clears the tops of the wheel wells. Maybe a double can swing out.

I’m definitely gonna upgrade it before it’s finished.

    Swing box 1.0!!! Lol

    Thanks!
Everyone on Tacomaworld always helps out. Truly appreciate it!
