Anywhere I can obtain these for cheaper?

Ive been layed off quite a bit at work, but I’m looking to buy some new taillights for my Tacoma, due to the fact that my current ones are beginning to wear and get quite a few cracks in them. From you info looks like you have 1997 model. The tail lamp is different between 1995.5-2000 and 2000-2004. Make sure you look for the right year.

if you're just looking to tint them then why not just get a can of tint and do it? That'll cost a fraction of the price of new tails.

 

Yeah, I already checked with a buddy of mine that had a slammed out 1998 with these taillights, surprisingly the 2000-2004 taillights fit on the older first gens just fine, and I like the bevel that the newer first gens have to them.

 

I already have my current taillights tinted ,but I am having issues with them leaking and cracking because I’m pretty sure they’ve never been replaced before. I tinted the ones I have now I did all myself, and I can say they look very well, but I would like a more even tint, because if I buy these eBay ones, they have equal tint on both lights, for mine, it’s hard to exactly get them as perfect as I would like them to be.

 

So what is different between 1995-2000 and 2001-2004? I like the clear 2001-2004 that is crystal clear unlike the 1995-2000 clear that is not so nice milky clear.

I’m pretty sure the only different this is how the 2001-2004 ones have a bevel to them and pop out

 

Sorry for my ignorance, what does it mean "bevel to them and pop out"? So the shape, mounting holes and connectors are the same? If they are direct fit to my 1995 I will grab a set next time I'm back in USA (shipping to Poland sucks big time).

 

So, the bevel means that they have a buldge to them. And pop out is the same, if you look at the headlights on 1995-2000’s, you’ll notice that they are flush with the back of the truck, and that they are flat. With the 2001-2004 taillights, you’ll notice that they have a headlight cover on them that has buldges on it, and that is not flush with the back of the truck.

There is more of a difference than the shape. The wiring for the taillights changed in 01, removing a ground from the passenger taillight (or was it the driver?). This means that on 01-04 trucks, the ground on the passenger light is directly connected to the driver side light. This has been know to cause issues when the ground connections on the bulb sockets start to fail. I have 01 lights on my 99 and they are plug and play, but I did notice that the wiring is different. I also read that a lot of aftermarket light manufacturers never changed their wiring schemes when the 01 models came out.

 

I believe they’ll still work thou.

 

Yes, wiring is not an issue, from the picture I see the connector is the same so all it is a matter of swapping wires in the connector (I did that already for my lamp for swapping reverse with blinker on one side and replacing reverse with fog light on the other). Grounding change is in the truck's loom, not the lamp itself.

Yeah but you have to understand rock auto charges an obsurd amount for shipping, if I was to buy those on rock auto I would be spending over 100$+

 

$76.28 shipped to Missoula. Looks like a pair of tail lights is going to cost you about $75 to $80 no matter where you get them

 

Way cheaper than OEM. While I prefer critical parts to be OEM, with tail lights it is not that critical. As long as it is decent quality and road legal.
