Yeah, it's a Blackhawk Korek machine and we have three of them. They built frame machines from mid 50s to mid 90s, then went out of business. That's the main reason we have to take such good care of our equipment because none of the parts or attachments are available anymore. The only company that makes one similar to it is in Australia.

Question for the 2nd gen smittybilt winch guys are you mounting the control unit on top or to the right or somewhere else and what has been the consensus on ease of use?

On the side over the motor. On my Demello it interfered with the bumper on the top. If it had cleared, it would have interfered with the grill.

I mount mine on the side. I had to trim the little metal grille support piece (which I eventually just unbolted entirely) but it doesn’t cause any issues. No issues getting the winch controller in.

You can kinda sorta see it here.

Fuck it's cold out there. I replaced the battery in the WRX since the OEM batteries are junk, and it's been slow starting all winter. It also won't hold over 12.5 volts, so my dash cam won't run for long after shutdown.

Today was rough on my battery as well. The bitch froze, to some degree. Finally thawed out around noon.

It wasn't even today specifically that was the problem. Just since it started dropping below about 35-40 at night, but I can see how today could be hard on batteries in general.

And these issues are with the new battery? That's shitty.

It was with the OEM battery. The new battery started fine for the few minutes I let it idle. I bought the battery yesterday afternoon and put it in this afternoon. I would have put it in yesterday at the store, but the ratcheting 10mm I brought wouldn't fit the battery hold down. The clearance around it was too tight.

Ahh gotcha. Yeah the batteries in our subies suck too. Last winter mine was close to dying, so I put the 24f from my tacoma into it. Now my wifes car likes to slow start when sitting for even a day or two. I can see it being replaced before next winter.

Put in an X2Power group 35 AGM. Picked it up from Batteries Plus in Fredericksburg. There's a thread in the Deals section for 20% off and a $30 mail-in rebate through the end of the month.

Do you have a link to the thread? I just looked and couldn't find it.

Yeah. The final price for mine is lower than the Northstar group buy that recently ended.

The X2 is a good battery. I've had have one in my Jeep (not to keep bringing it up) for about 2.5 years now. The heep sits weeks at a time and starts with no issues, Even in this deep freeze we are currently in.
