Come over and play I could really use a second hand. Doing a whole car alone is a blessing and a curse.

So in a stroke of pure blind stupidity I assumed the clunk I was hearing was an inner tie rod end. Well the symptoms matched exactly. But it wasn't, I made it clunk without rod ends of any sort, fuck that means rack. Well look at how a 300zx rack sits and tell me how you think you remove it...

    15481240980645417088165768197371.jpg

But I had one more thought before I resorted to lighting the thing on fire. What if that big nut and jam ring are the adjuster for a rack guide, I have vertical play and clicking so it makes sense. So I set about for something to turn this weird nut...

    15481242104866002051711962234674.jpg

Well that is some sort of 13mm torx or something odd like that. But it just so happens I have 13mm bolt head and some nuts that fit it to make an adjusting tool.

    15481242988402962095608864254382.jpg

Gave the jam ring a loosen, tightened the nut and voila. Noise and play we're gone and the steering was tighter. That saved me $300 and a lot of time. The rack is otherwise okay and I'm replacing all the other rack stuff now anyway.

Also bonus garage action, look at these tension rod bushings compared to the new poly ones, yuck!

It's more interesting anyway, the truck is old news and everyone on here has one haha. The Z31 forums are long dead and don't have much useful info anyway so I feel like j have to blaze a trail.
