A good high resolution image to start with makes it all easier. Harder to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

@JKO1998 definitely has the eye for catching good pics of his critters in the wild.

The 200mm lens is a good starter zoom lens. You'll get those mountain lion in the tree shots from a little further back if you rather not risk being lunch to some hungry cat.

https://kenrockwell.com/index.htm has quite a few reviews on various lenses and equipment as well as some tips. Another site you might want to check out - https://digital-photography-school.com/tips/ (dont sign up with your primary email address though, they do a lot of mailings lol).

How close do you guys think I get?

I don’t leave the ground unless I have to, lions can be anywhere from 10 to 40 feet up

taking the shot of the cougar dude... lol Knowing how fast those things run, I don't think I'd be anything less than 1/4 mile away looking through a super lens... hahaha

the odometer pic was just to say, damn - hit 158888 today. closing in on that 160k. :annoyed:

My joke went over your head I think, probably wasn’t a very good joke.

The thing about lions is they have small lung and not a lot of stamina, can’t run very long.

Bears on the other hand don’t give a shit and will run alll day long and they’ll run you down if they want.

Putting miles on your truck isn’t a bad thing haha

Bears freak me the F out. Luckily we only have Black bears in CA anymore and they aren't particularly dangerous unless you really try to piss one off. But Grizzlies, nope...

I'm bad about taking my camera out with me on trails, I admit it. I do so much of it every day for work that when the weekend rolls around the last thing I wanna do is work on more photos. Kinda unfortunate but it is what it is lol.
