That fancy bar mount was a leg from a carboy rack I built that we had to take apart to move and I never set it back up...3 years as a pile in the basement was long enough.

 

I did a thing....added a preorder on the new iKamper x-cover to my shopping cart last night after a few drinks. I decided I should sleep on it and I'm happy to say that this morning I completed the order.

The x-cover has a king sized bed and weighs in around 110lbs so I won't be putting as much weight up high as some of the other similar sized options.

Waiting until June/July to pick it up is going to be tough!

Just not on a Tacoma. Decided on a Q7 for the family hauler.

 

Got one of these as a loaner once. Fantastic car/SUV.

 

It eats up the highway miles. Super comfy cruiser.

 

I’m on the fence on getting the ikamper xcover. Not sure how I want it mounted since it’s definitely longer than the short bed.

 

wouldnt be that bad with it over hanging i have the smittybilt xl on my short bed sticks off a bit lol

 

Think it’s around 10 inches in the over hang

go to my build thread and scroll to the pic of my dog in the tent it shows how much mine overhangs id post it here but dont have the pic on the computer plus not my thread

 

Mine will be centered on the shell and overhanging the rear a bit too but with the swingout in not worried about overhang.

 

Having the shell definitely helps. What shell do you have?

 

Do be careful not all shells can support a roof top tent I tried swapping from a rack to a shell but couldn’t find one that would support the weight

 

Talk about a coincidence... I found this thread now. 3 years today I had part of a kidney removed. Yesterday I got an all good. Big HAPPY!

I'm running the Leer 100xr

The x-cover is under 110lbs and the static weight limit on my shell is 165lbs. If it looks like it is going to be a problem I'll fabricate some internal supports as discussed earlier in this thread (somewhere between pages 16 and 19 I believe).

I was looking into the leer 100xr too. Trying to find a used shell is hard. Might have to buy brand new

Dealing with this shit certainly puts things in perspective for us. After 7 years of stressing about the progression, I'm very hopeful that that part of my life is behind me.

 

Since you usually have to wait for SnugTop to build (and I'm assuming all others) new, you can add extra structure into the shell to support the weight of the tent.
