After market exhaust

What are some good aftermarket exhaust systems for a 4 cyl 2nd gen? I’ve done so much research and everyone says something different just wondering what some of y’all are running. Thanks!

 

I originally started by having a

$116 MagnaFlow Performance Exhaust Muffler 11225: 2.25"/2.25" Inlet/Outlet, 4x9x14" Oval, Stainless Steel, Satin Finish

Magnaflow 11225 muffler welded in place of my stock muffler, for a slightly more aggressive sound. This was more than fine for me at the time, coupled with my cold air intake. It had a boxer-like rumble to it, and would have occasional pops if i was decelerating down a hill.


Once I went turbo, I felt the exhaust could benefit from larger diameter piping, so I picked up the Maganflow 15240 catback kit. This kit has a 2.5" intermediate pipe from the cat to the muffler, then 3" from the muffler to tip. Stock diameter is 2.25" all the way back, so it was an improvement for sure. This also gives me the ability to run catless once I fab up a section of piping to replace the cat.

I love the sound of the new catback, as it's deeper and not much louder than the MF muffler was. No drone on the highway whatsoever, but you can certainly tell when you get on it that it's got an exhaust.

I'd recommend either of the 2 options I've used, for sure.I'm extremely happy.

Keep in mind that the same setup on the OP’s truck will likely be louder, your turbo mellows the tone a good bit.

That's correct, because my truck doesn't sound like the clip Magnaflow posts for that catback system. The advantage of having a restriction in the exhaust lol. That'll go out the window once the cat is gone though!

The exhaust wheel in the turbo is all the restriction you need haha. I used to run a McCord powerplate on my MKIII Supra, the flip of a switch I used to be able to run open downpipe. The power increase was noticeable, too. Miss that car, I’ll finish it one day!

Also- just an idea, pull the cat, cut off the flanges and weld on some v-bands. Do the same for your cat-delete pipe but add an electric exhaust cut out on waterproof quick connects. That way, if needed, swapping the cat back in is a five minute affair.

Thanks for all the info people! I really appreciate it! Don’t care for it to be too loud just trying to get a little more air and just a little tone, my days of waking up the neighborhood with a glass pack are behind me

 

Research the Jones Exhaust/Areo Turbine. I have the resonated one and very happy with the tone and straight through design. Also, no sharp edges on the sides.
