I am really thinking the CV axle as well, but don't want it to be. I haven't messed with one, so I wouldn't change it myself the first time. I have a stick, so it wouldn't move in neutral, but it definitely has only been with the onset of the bitter cold. I drove it Saturday night in 4X4 a little bit and it was fine. I can't answer the warmed up part because i don't want to try and get to where i can't drive it at all. It seems to be in better shape, much less resistance once warmed up. I'm thinking if it is the CV, then maybe my boot is torn and it got some water in? I've been around and drove tacomas for the last 10 years, but never worked on my own. Over the past few years i have been trying to do more and more myself though. This is not something that has happened in any other toyota I've run.

It does make me leary of driving with the kids though. I've had to use 4 wheel to get started at an intersection, and then try to shift out once moving and basically get stuck in the middle of it.

I have seen some pretty dumb things myself, and i don't know much. Thanks for responding and trying to help though. That is what i love about this forum and thread in particular. TTE has too many assholes that do nothing but troll.

I've been told the same, and can be sometimes. Not very often though. I do appreciate people like you though. Blunt and to the point is what the world needs more of.

I know you mention working nights. But if you have a floor jack. Jack up truck under lower control arm and shake the wheel.hands at 12and6 that will at least give you piece of mind. It will take you about 2 minutes per side.

I haven't forgotten what you told me. I don't just work nights. I work two jobs. When i work nights that means i'm doing a double. I'm not going to do check it at midnight in my driveway. I am planning on getting it on a lift Thursday after my first job and giving it a once over. I will check the wheel bearing. Is there a quick easy check for the CV as well? My boots were good last time i was under there in October.

I got a little comp time yesterday, so I am thinking about jetting out a little early tomorrow to get it on the lift before going into the second job. Today i was able to get turned around without 4x4 and no issues. That is what is making me lean more towards a CV axle. I don't know anything about them though.

So do you guys know of any kind of Tacoma graveyard in the eastern PA area where we can pull off parts? I know of some local "you-pull-it" yards, but Tacomas are a hit or (mostly) miss thing. Just figured I'd ask as the noob around here.
