Similar to my dad . He was laid off after 30 something years . He could retire but he's still looking for work cause he doesn't want to retire yet at 57. Says he'd be bored

Exactly...thought about buying a skid steer and hanging up a shingle just for fun. I like operating heavy equipment, and am pretty good at it.

That or sell tacos at a yota dealership

You office workers I don't get it.
The second I can retire I am fucking gone and I'm never wiring another thing.

My dad was saying the same though if he can't find work he might just go drive a fork lift or something.
Seems not many redhat linux based jobs want to hire older guys. Even though there's plenty of mainframe jobs

Dood, I used to drift in a Raymond reach truck!

I also jammed VM/CMS with REXX, COBOL & PL1. Still do. I legacy integration, modern integration...whats your old man do? I might be able to hook him up

I suspect the fact they haven't regeared may be prolonging the life of the driveshafts in the rear - not putting down enough torque to do damage lol.

The JL ball joints and knuckles are a bit beefier than the JK's. That may be helping a bit up front.

Well, mainframe is not Linux, the is a USS (Unix sub system) that's relatively newish (think 1999 ish) that also exists on the iSeries platform as well as the VM/CMS platform. But it's IBM flavour of Unix, not Linux. Ask him if he can do RAC route programming
