Well I got beat in ONE thing... AGE, by 2 years.

Nah Nah nah nah Nah Naaaaaa.

See above, I'm in the race for immaturity! :burnrubber:

    Scars, ha!
Bet I got you all beat.. :stirthepot:
    - Shot :infantry:, Stabbed :duel:, Blown Up :itllbuffout: , Set on Fire :bananadead: and my favorite, exposed to chemical agents :welder:.
    - Got plates, pins and wires.
Had a lot of cosmetic and laser surgery to reduce most of the scarring.
Even have scar tissue on my lungs and trachea.
But if I get a tan, I look like a road map LOL
Can't go in MRI machines and I set off the metal detectors at the airport. LOL
Glad I got to retire from that job. :amen:

So I chose a nice safe  career path as an Electrician. Keeps me smooth skinned and blemish free, in nice cushy environments.
It brings home the bacon :dancingbacon: to feed the Taco :mudding:

    union or non union?
    residential or ICI?

smooth skinned makes me thinks resi or tenant ICI.
motha fucka i got burn from having battery banks and switch gear blow up on me...

nerve damage from being blasted by 347V
destroyed rotator cuff from fighting 1000amp bus duct.

Didn't know you were a sparky as well

I've learned my lesson though. I aint throwing anymore big switches without suiting up. I like my skin not burning. and no more working on 347 live. I got outta that cowboy phase, I prefer not needing to be concerned about going home at the end of the day.

Or at least I tell myself that. I probably still work live way more than I should because I get impatient lol

Haven't broken any bones yet, despite getting rear ended at 80. TRD seats FTW.

Small Non-Union shop but when we are doing bigger jobs we bring in benched Union guys.

We do about 40% Medium to Light Industrial, 40% Commercial high-rise building refurbishment and new heavy commercial buildings and about 20% residential custom homes and services.

So the biggest wire I generally play with is 250MCM and once and a while 500.

We also do some maintenance on large commercial main switchgear.

We also do troubleshooting for things other companies have f$cked up.
Fun one a couple weeks ago was a medical building where 120V LED lights were hooked into 347 as well as some outlets, sometimes.
Lol why do the lights get brighter sometimes and we keep going through microwaves and specimen freezers.

Last month it was when I restaurant turns on a meat slicer all the lights in the building start flashing.
The building manager shows me and sure enough all the lights in the building flash on and off at different times like some kinda horror movie... I looked him dead in the eye and with a straight face said " You called the wrong guy, you called an electrician. You should have called an Exorcist! " Lol the look on his face.

Most days one of the first things I do when I get home is cover something in Polysporin. LOL Never got used to working with gloves.

Lol yeah 347 does have a little bit of a "zing" eh. Glad you didn't get major muscle damage or worse!

Gaaa, buss duct, that shit gets scary when it gets old an unmaintained. I can't believe I've seen guys add and remove disconnects from it live.

Lol Switchgear, Starters, transformers, capacitors, I've had the pleasure of saying "I don't think you should start that up ".
OR idiots that say, "Oh it's tripped, lets see if the fault cleared. "

Glad no batteries... knock on wood. I worked with the big lift-truck batteries when I was in high school, those things were messy heavy and nasty.

Ever had a tugger let go, and bounce around a live electrical room like a rubber ball, LOL that had our pucker factor going. :)

honestly after doing the arc flash training and realizing how deadly it really can be I got a big wake up call. and seeing some shit go bad, including the constant reminder working with the guy that had shit blow up in his face, hospitalized for 2 months.
Just looking at his arm reminds me enough not to fuck around anymore.

I'll still do shit many won't. But only with the proper safety shit in place.
Some guys don't feel comfortable throwing the main switch on buldings etc. Honestly neither do I. But i'll do it. others I know will do it with no safety gear dont get it.

So far the biggest I've thrown was a 27,600V 400AMP switch (powerline high voltage transformer) the bang that thing makes when coming on you feel in your chest. Was one of the 5 transformers that feed the entire Mondelez cookie factory over on O'Connor and Bermondsey

I won't lie it is a rush when you do it. Knowing the borderline bomb suit you need to wear when doing it is only to increase your odds to 50% chance of 2nd degree burns to 80% of your body.

hahaha we ripped a 3/4" drop in anchor out of the ceiling at Billy Bishop airport doing a 350KCMIL pyro pull coming off a pulley that was fucking scary.
I tend to stay away from the smaller stuff mostly just do distribution, end up on the odd tenant job here or there. Currently at 16 york new tower going up just building electrical rooms. Floor by floor
Small buss duct, two or three little transformers maybe one 75KVA for the RP. Lighting panels nothing big yet.
Cant wait to get to the penthouse and work on the high voltage stuff again.
Just finished all my training on it so should be cool.

had a nice 10 000amp 480V UPS battery bank go in my face thanks to an idiot shorting the whole bank. 3 days off with welders flash and he got a nice burn to remind him now.

I think the worst pulls for me were 750KCMIL pyro at Toronto General for their generator upgrade or the 750KCMIL 4 conductor tech 90 on the load side of those high voltage transformers at mondelez

I started my time doing custom homes and a lot of service work non union but been out of it for probably 6-7 years now.

I've been lucky being with Plan Group get to see a lot of big stuff.
Did a huge high voltage transformer upgrade and MCC upgrade at eaton centre a few years ago. Doing shut downs and rotating shifts is something interesting for sure.
We had Thyssen elevators do that whole 'oh just turn it back on shit' when they had a main DP go down on them. idiots didnt understand whatever the fuck caused the short somehow took out the main 800amp switch, I'm not about to throw that back on until I know what the fuck caused the short.

I worked on that site too towards the end. Our company left, they had production lines already running.
I worked for Mondelez for 25 years down at College St. and Dufferin in Toronto. It was Neilson's chocolates originally and bought out by Kraft/Mondelez. All the expansion for that cookie factory came from the closure of Mr.Christies on Lakeshore.

ya...every time something's happened I hear it from my girlfriend, future mother in law, my family...
"why the fuck can't you just wire houses or do shit less dangerous."

Honestly if shit wasn't so rushed all the time less mistakes would be made and these issues would be caught in comissioning processes

but then even still some shit just ends up being faulty gear.
I've had disconnects I thought I turned off still be on. Switch is in the off position yes, but the blades are still in. Sure enough the latch is broken and the thing is stuck on.

That site was a total cluster fuck. I did good last year even though I was off for four months because of all the overtime I had at that job.
And being 8min from home was saweeeeeeet

Yeah no kidding. I got in there towards the end but I heard even our company did a lot of overtime. Mondelez doesn't fuck around when it comes to money. Faster they can operate at full production the better.
