Totally off topic but has anyone who does not have BSM tried to move the cig lighter all the way to the blank where a BMS button would be? I'd like to have the cig lighter all the way on the left so it's more in line with my air vent phone mount. Right now when my phone is in the mount and I'm charging it the charging cable interferes with my cup holders.

I can throw up a pic with arrows if this doesn't make sense.

It would be way easier to just put in one of these

How annoyingly bright is it when it's on? I have the same brand/design hidden behind my dash to power my wireless ram mount I built and that sucker is bright. It's a red ring lit one though.

Also, what wires did you use? I'm not sure what to expect when opening it. Did you get to use the same red and black wires from the cigarette lighter or did you have to tap something else?

It's as bright as my CH4x4 switches, which is to say, pretty bright.

I would try to open it up and tweek the birghtness of the display but the whole unit appears to be glued into the aluminum housing which could make it difficult.

Haven't plugged one of these in and that ebay link doesn't show any wiring. Probably just a plug? You could splice in a resistor to tone it down if it's brighter than it should be given the brightness of the rest of the dash lights (assuming you have access to resistors anyway I suppose )

Some of us (myself included) are just OCD about how we want things... I didn't want something sticking out of the socket. When I took the socket out, I just removed the metal wire plugs from the plastic bracket and attached it to the new USB charger, seemed to fit just fine.

Speaking of OCD, you might want to think about putting some heatshrink or tape on those terminals if you haven't already.

Yep, already done, that was just a test fit and I didn't take another picture after the heatshrink.

Trying to push out the Cigarette lighter was one of the most frustrating experiences I have had working on this truck.

Is there any benefit to doing this over just a regular cigarette lighter plug in usb charger? Seems like a lot of work for something that’s a less flexible and versatile use of the socket

Yeah I don’t understand the purpose of not having the 12v socket lol. You have way more options of what you can do with it
