I'm now at Massey Hall for the reno that they are doing there. My partner went to Rogers center while I was away so I don't where I'm going when I get back. Sitting at the Punta Cana airport right now waiting for the motherfucking plane(no snakes please).

I have worked at the same small software development company for 15 years, as the system administrator. I find myself wondering more and more if it is going to last for my entire career.

Can only hope it does I guess, deep into it now!@

    :fingerscrossed:

When I was 15 I locked the keys in my 67 Mustang, thought I'd be smart and just pull the center lead from the distributor cap to the coil.

Oh lord that lit me up, glad I had just put on a high performance coil too.
Looked like a lightning bolt came outa my nose and hit the air cleaner.
I don't know if I jerked my arm back or it was from the jolt but my elbow was smarting for a couple days after that.

When I was about 5 or 6 I was taking my parents TV apart (you know cause at that age I had to fix things that didn't need fixing) and the next thing you know I was sitting on the floor across the room wondering why the end of my screwdriver was blown off.
To put in the real perspective for you about our trade.

That "Bomb Suit" will only make the difference between an open casket and a closed casket funeral if sh!t goes south.
The concussive force will give you the fun fatal condition of "Blast Lung", blood vessels burst in your lungs and you drown in your own blood.
Internal hemorrhaging in the thorax and in the skull
Nerve damage causing palsy, .... medical stuff, medical stuff.

I do wear heavy leather gloves and jacket, ear plugs, hat and glasses though.
I figure if things get worse than what I'm wearing, then I probably don't want to survive.
Electrical rooms were not designed for the safety of the people working in them

I'm glad I rarely deal with the Medium and High voltage switchgear.
And TBH when I am the one that has to crank her up...
I always make sure to go to the washroom first. Cause I almost sh!t myself when those things close.
Can fell your kidneys rattle about, and everything around you kinda all bangs thumps at once and a split second big buzz that makes you think this is it.
Then you kinda open your eyes to make sure your not dead and everything is still there. You take a breath.
Then gather yourself and unclench your butt so you can walk past the other electricians cool as a cucumber.
Foxholes and Powerline Switchgear makes many a man religious.

Lol you can keep the powerline stuff. I never pack enough underwear for the startups.

Plus high voltage stuff makes me "itch" .
I have wires and pins in my arm and leg, and a plate in my head. So when I'm near Medium high power or high voltage equipment I get a itchy tingling feeling sort of like when your arm or leg goes to sleep.

Funny enough when I started I was scared shitless of it . Still am.
Problem is I didn't say no when I should've and got all this training. Now I kind of got stuck doing it.
I've had ways out and took them but the other shit I find boring . After a month or two I just want to come back to the big stuff.

Luckily I stopped caring what others say and when they rush. I go through so much testing etc with Megger and tilt transformer meter .I make sure there's no faults before I throw something.

I prefer not doing high voltage power on . I think on this job it's being subbed out. I haven't heard anything about it so I'm guessing it's not us thankfully.

When I learned the suit is only for an open casket it sunk in. I laugh when I see the cowboy apprentices or even journeyman that haven't had the chance to do it . And they talk how they aren't afraid and what not.

Anyone that isn't afraid is either ignorant to what it is, or just incredibly stupid.

We had a fun Job a couple weeks ago, First Ontario Center had to fix some switchgear and we finished just in time to watch the Judas Preist / Deep Purple concert. Sitting up in the catwalks.
Then a couple days later we ran some more power into one of maintenance rooms where they store the.... Zamboni's!
Wooo Whooo, another item off the bucket list. I was on that Zamboni like Ugly on an Ape! Keys were in it ... So er ehem I had to move it out of our way from where we were working on the other side of the room. Lol when you have the "gear up", those things can move! Should have seen the look on the apprentices face when I came straight at him laughing my head off yelling "Death by Zamboni" lol one of the guys got a picture of me when I got it to drift.

Yeah I like doing the distribution stuff too. Too many low skilled low pay ropers to make that part of the business worthwhile any more.

Lot of Apartment buildings and high rises being built in Hamilton, seeing quite a few where they were 2 and 3 floor apartments in 20 story buildings being converted into single floor apartments. So we've been adding the distribution equipment for them.
Those have been Gong shows, rofl. Plumbers with core bits drilling through embedded conduits. No X rays, No scans.
Ropers that don't know the difference between hot and neutral for their Apartment subpanels. Lol had to replace a 600A floor sub panel that they somehow blew right off the wall. That electrical cabinet room looked like a fireplace with all the soot around the blast mark.
Doing the Chalk Farm buildings near Jane and Finch was quite the experience, half the units still had some "interesting" tenants.

    Elevator guys, rofl
I watched them have to haul by hand a 30Hp motor up stairs unto the elevator room because they said that the controller they had could not single phase a motor.
I had shut the previous motor down for the fire department when it looked like a Jet Engine glowing red with smoke billowing out of it.
3 Weeks later I was at the same Elevator room shutting it down for the fire Department again.

I love the big custom homes and custom penthouses. All the fun gadgets and Automation can be a blast. What I hate is at the end when they want to change everything around. But I do love billing for those changes. But I hate dealing with the customers. But when the Homeowner is the GC... boss better book some vacation days for me during and after that job lol. We only do those for people that pay too much or are our clients.

Sometimes we blow out conduit before we do a pull. We made a gadget kinda like this but with an adapter to fit in one end of the conduit.
Works great to blow water or any other crap outa the conduit.
We tell new apprentices or coops to go down to the other end,
but do not look down the pipe and stand away a few feet but radio us if the hear anything. Lol
in goes a whole bottle of wire lube...
    "Are you ready?"
Oh I had to stop typing as I was laughing so hard remembering the screams and cursing.
One kid got the perfect textbook blast, like almost completely covered head to toe. Has the perfect outline of his safety glasses and he's just roaring at us. His hair his all sticking out where he was pulling clumps of lube out and it looked like a cartoon of a bomb blast victim. There was nothing the 3 of us could do but roll around crying with laughter.
