It's a common damage. As soon as the shop sees it, they'll know.

Good luck with this. That is going to be a hard thing to prove. You know that the tow guy is going to say she didn’t hook up to the cv boots, that he would never do that. They will say you damaged them some other way. I truly hope aaa pays the costs but I’m kind of doubtful they will. If they don’t you can always try small claims court.

I’m sure AAA has insurance for this type of thing. Wouldn’t be surprised if they make it right with minimal headaches as long you call right away. Good luck!

Looks like the damage was to the top and side of the CV boot which would indicate a hook type object being placed over them. Also if OP wasnt in 4wd which it looks like he wasnt the front shafts would not have been turning, and by not turning there isnt grease flung out everywhere. I only see grease in the boot and where some dripped down not flung all over the wheel well, control arm etc . Basically I'm trying to say I agree with OP about how damage was caused . Edit:Maybe the shafts do turn I'm not sure!

Well that would be stupid. AAA has always towed my modified vehicles. The cv axles and the lca are completely stock too so it’s no different than towing a stock Tacoma

I think the cv axles do rotate even in 4wd. There is some fling grease since I drove about two miles.

I contacted AAA and hopefully this will be resolved soon

I think the driver just wanted a tow

AAA manager wasn’t thrilled when I told her he wouldn’t put gas in my vehicle and now I’m stuck with a broken vehicle because he wouldn’t just put gas in the truck.

This is why AAA sucks and most flatbed drivers suck. The tow company contracts with AAA to tow vehicles for super dirt cheap. AAA justifies it by saying, "we have so many members and we're going to send you so much business, that you're going to make lots of money". Then the tow company hires a driver with no experience. They give him very little training and send him out in the world to drag vehicles up onto the deck. They pay the driver a percentage of not much money per tow. Unless he really hustles, he probably isn't even making minimum wage. Most people don't look under their vehicle to see the carnage. And then there's the premium that the customer pays AAA. For how much money AAA cost, you can almost pay for 1 tow per year out of your own pocket. You're much better off adding towing insurance to your regular insurance. It's usually about $15 per year. State Farm, Farmers, and American Family are real good about paying the tow company direct. With some insurance companies, you may need to pay the tow bill and turn it in to get reimbursed.

Agreed with what's said above. The driver hooked the J hook on the control arm and the tip of the J hook poked the boot. As the truck rolled up the deck, it sliced the boot all the way around. The driver knew damn well he did it when he hooked his hooks back on the deck as the hooks were all covered with CV joint grease.

Bud, I'm just telling you the inside info. I worked for them for 22 years. I've had my personal vehicle refused, and I was a shop lead. Some tow companies wont tow anything other than stock vehicles. They tell you to go commercial and apply for reimbursement. For instance my shop wouldn't tow telsa's, and it's easy to do. But not worth the risk of damage on a high end car. Just depends on who's in charge that day..

I get the insurance discount through AAA, pays for the membership. Really saved my ass last summer on vacation when my brother in law's truck puked the engine, 2 tows totalling 130 miles..$0

yep had a buddy who became a tow driver and that is spot on. and yes there is NO way he did not see that as he took his hooks off. Shamefull that he didn't say anything. we will see if he plays dumb when confronted by his manager or AAA.

i wouldnt doubt it at all. i have had all 3 of my tacomas towed by them (All on 35s) and a dodge on 37s and never given trouble. if they tow it i would figure they are liable.
