This is why I don’t buy used parts online. I cannot trust that people didn’t steal parts or didn’t steal a truck and rip it apart to sell.
I’d rather pay more for new than risk supporting a crooked business.

I bought 2 things before my truck arrived at the Dealer from the factory and before I picked it up. Fluid film & hose clamp. Both were applied the day I drove it home. Thanks TW!

How I would handle that would depend on a lot of factors. If I thought these were just crackheads or kids, I'd just pick it up and say "This one is mine, I'm taking it." Then I'd report the rest of them to the po-po. If I thought it would be a dangerous move, then needless to say, it wouldn't go down that way. :)

Where was this thread 5 years ago. My daughter and SIL borrowed my truck and trailer to move some furniture and left the tailgate down backing the trailer. The dent is very small, you have to look hard to see it with the back window of the cap closed. I looked high and low for a white tailgate at a decent price that I could just put on it but no white ones to be found. I found other colors, but they needed to be painted and that would have run the price up more than I was willing to pay. My insurance deductible was $500 and I really wanted to avoid getting them involved.

It was right at that in between stage. Had the truck been 1-2 years newer I'd have paid to get it fixed. One or 2 years older and I'd have not worried about it. At this point I'm not fixing it, but would have paid $400-$500 for another tailgate 5 years ago.

Will they steal it if it's dented a couple times and has a spot of what looks like cancer?

Hose clamp can be beaten pretty quick with a cold chisel...
Use exhaust tubing and cut a ring to fit over the outer diameter. has to be fitted with the hinge disassembled. Then fill the screw head holes with JB weld.

Hook me up with your JBA controls arms if you do decide to go back to a 3rd gen. :D

Seriously though, why? You miss the ECT button that much? Or is it just the interior/electronics improvements?

There is a local truck cap business here that has lots of tailgates for sale as well as factory take of rims. Most fleets don’t ask for parts back.

I do miss that ECT button - I loved that button! I put a fake one in the 2015 for placebo effect! haha! Considering a PRO and getting rid of the 2nd Gen and 15 Explorer. The 3rd Gen is nicer to live with (test drove a 19 PRO this weekend). It was noticeably better than my prior 2016. Also looking at a 19 DCLB Tech/Premium in Cement.

I do have those new JBA control arms sitting in the garage...… :)
