Lol I can see where getting AAA isn't the greatest idea in most situations such as paying once for a tow or calling a friend etc.

I don't have AAA but did when I was putting 30k miles a year on my truck. Places I went to where tows would be over 100 miles easy. It makes a lot of sense for certain people. I've used it multiple times for my friends cars as well. I just don't have it now since my truck has 17k miles on it.

Let me just say that AAA has saved me multiple times. Twice from the dunes where the truck got seriously messed up lol.

I remember my AAA starting they would only tow within 100 miles of my residence and anything further would require additional payment.

A few reviews on Yelp for the company involved. WOW!
    -----------------------------------------------------------------
So, this place is ridiculous. I got rear ended by one of their drivers off of Las Posas Blvd. My insurance company and I have been trying to get a hold of Jeff their "Supervisor" but we keep getting the run around. This place must not care about their customers. Jeff even asked to speak to me on the phone right after the accident to try to convince me to not contact my insurance and have it fixed in house. If I would have went with that option, who knows how my car would have turned out? He can't even answer phone calls. This place cannot be trusted. I will continue to keep writing reviews about this place until I get Jeff's attention. So, Jeff, please answer our calls and pay up. Thanks!

I told the driver to back down the driveway. He didn't listen and attempted to turn around. The driver ran into my stairs that lead up to my porch. I filed a complaint with AAA and nothing happened I ended up fixing the steps myself.

XXXXXXX's towing hit and ran my vehicle while towing another persons vehicle. I contacted
the owner (jesse) this past Sunday (10/13) to try an resolve this issue on many occasions this week. Always being told he will call back later. It now has been one week as of today, I have filed a complaint with AAA who had the young lady's vehicle towed. My next course of action is to report this accident to the police for further action,

I used to work as a Auto Club tow truck driver in Socal ( San Diego) back in the early 90's and was a Med duty operator . I was extra cautious whenever I had to tow specialized vehicles and even though those meat hooks are easier I always used the appropriate tie downs or winch points

As for today if I need my vehicles towed especially my Camaro I always request a flatbed . When talking with dispatch I still use the Auto club "10" code , And Dispatch always asks me if I'm a driver !!!!

The first thing I always say when the driver shows up is " I used to work for Autoclub " and then watch the driver closely as he hooks up my Camaro. This way I know that the driver isn't going to be rushed and will hook the car up correctly

I've been a Auto club of Socal member for over 25yrs and currently have the Premiere membership

I've read in here also saying " use your insurance " for towing !!! . Did you know that most or all Autoclub contract stations have many different towing contracts ?? . So even if you have a Cross Country motor club or even a Sam membership 9 out of 10 times your tow truck driver will be a Autoclub driver !!!

When I was towing my ICS had 6 police , sheriff contracts , Autoclub , Cross Country motor club , commercial accts and COD accts ....... yes I was very busy !!

We used a 10 code like law enforcement to keep radio traffic down but also used Code such as this

    T1 / T2 ... tire flat or needing air

    T3 ....... Jump start

    T4 .......out of fuel

    T5 .... No start

    T6 ..... lock out

    T7 ...... Tow

    T8 ..... accident

But with towing insurance on your regular insurance, you can call any towing company you want. Even if the company you choose doesn't direct bill your insurance company, you can pay for the tow and get reimbursed. With AAA, you have very few options on who tows your vehicle. In most cities, there is only 1 towing company that you can use. AAA doesn't tell you that when you sign up. AAA doesn't care what the response time is. They don't care if you're an old man, stuck in a snow bank and might freeze to death. And I can guarantee you that the prime focus of the AAA driver is to get this job done as quickly as possible, so he can get off to the next job.

If you've got Autoclub "Premiere "

1 tow up to 200 miles

3 additional rows up to 100 miles

    Plus other benefits

If you were expo or an Overlander you would have had 38 gallons of gas in various Jerry can and rotopax units attached to an various points on the vehicle and not have had to worry about running out....

In reality that's shitty. I've had my FJ towed a few times definitely not due to potentially questionable decisions made off-road as have a few friends. We've never had issues. I keep my AAA just cause I drive between 25-50k a year, plus my pile has 225k+ miles on it.

Guess it would have payed off to be an overlander? Lol

Everything in my truck is practical but spare gas would have been nice.

I remember when trucks came from the factory with 2 tanks and the gas gauge worked on both tanks. LOL

So, let's back up a page or 2....................A AAA towtruck driver takes warranty denial due to customer mods course so they can "legitimately" deny towing someone? The fact that they won't tow a modded vehicle, given that there is no reason they cannot hook up to it safely, sounds like a big bunch of caca del toro BUT as an independent contractor, I suppose they have right to refuse service to anyone...........just doing it because they conclude on the spot that it is modded but not modded beyond towing capabilities is krazy stupid nonsense...............that happening would make it seem like they get paid to drive out and check out the situation whether they tow or not.

As for Autoclub and their response time it's all dependent on weather conditions or call volume !!! . Most ICS are on a 20-30 min average response time . If a certain ICS is busy they can go to a 45 min to 1 hr quote time

Also response times for flatbed calls are usually longer anyways due to availability

Response time was maybe 15 mins. The police were notified as well since my truck was literally in traffic around a corner.

When it's snowy and icy and all the tow trucks are busy as hell, and you own a tow company, and you have cash customers that are going to pay $100 to $150, and you have AAA calls that are going to get you $40, which calls are going to get priority? That's not a tough call. It's not like the AAA customer can get a free tow from another company in town. "I called the AAA tow company and they said it'll be 6 hours. I'm tired of waiting. I've got cash. How soon can you help me?"

When I was towing and granted this was 25 yrs ago it was up to the drivers discretion in informing dispatch if the vehicle could be towed safely . If it was deemed unsafe to tow dispatch would tell the customers to seek commercial service

I remember one tow I had with a gas tank puncture, it was leaking fuel badly and Autoclub sent me out to check it out !!! . When I got on scene there was a piece of steel pipe that punctured the tank . Due to the risk of sparks and potential fire Autoclub referred the member to a commercial tow

Blocking traffic and PD on scene is always considered a expedite or rush call hence the 15 min response

As for response times basically its 5-10 min for getting the call from the customer to dispatching a ICS tow truck

20 minutes response time or in your situation 5 min for the driver
