Mahomes threw touchdowns to 11 different receivers, the record was 14?. Talent or not, he doesn't need major superstars. He elevates those around him. I'm well aware of the salary caps and the pay days to be expected. I stated a page or 2 back, that all we need is a competent defense and Mahomes and Co can make it to the big show. We still have couple years before we truly pull our hair struggling to figure out how to sign those we want.

Unfortunately they were screwed out of a walk in touchdown to take the lead and potentially prevent OT.

You can’t possibly make the claim that he elevated receivers around him with Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce with a straight face.. especially after he was average in college with a supposed ‘QB guru’ coach.

The sample size is too small.

So do I, but only because I can't stand the Jets

Switching the Texans or the Colts into the Patriots division probably wouldn't make a big difference; Brady is 9-1 (I think) against Houston & 15-4 against the Colts, including the Peyton years. That's not really any better than his records against the Jets, Bills, or Dolphins (although I won't deny that those teams aren't much good most years)

He's not one of a kind per se, but a rare thing especially to have the whole career like he has. I'm going to wait a long while on Mahomes..and I said that about Brady too

THIS. The AFC East is the biggest garbage division, I bet Cleveland could make the playoffs semi regularly in that division.

Yeah, it still remains to be seen, but the potential we've all seen cannot be denied.

    I believe this.

That's a difficult one to assess this early in his career. He was able to spread the ball around to a lot of different players because he had a couple of major stars that spend a fair amount of time under double coverage. Double covering Travis Kelce or Tyreek Hill means that somebody else has more opportunity to get open. The Patriots exploited that same scenario to their advantage during Gronkowksi's first couple of seasons; he spent so much time under double coverage that Aaron Hernandez or Julian Edelman could get open relatively easily. Now, if he has to spend a season or two with a depleted selection of receivers and is still winning games and putting up big numbers, then I'll believe that he can elevate everybody around him. Until then, he's just a very good QB with a talented depth chart that most teams haven't figured out a game plan against yet.

Denver, Seattle, or Green Bay would probably make a difference. Not to mention make for some pretty epic divisional showdowns. For a couple more years, at least.

    Of course, you are correct.

But it's not like we're losing all these guys now. We still have them next year and next year is a very good shot to go to the Superb Owl. Chiefs are very good at drafting offensive weapons, so there will be no shortages of that in the future if we could not sign Hill, which we will, or Kelce, which we will. We also have to sign Chris Jones and I believe we will tag Dee Ford. Berry and Houston will need to restructure.

While Mahomes could potentially draw $200 mil figures, is he the kind of person that would take the money vs a championship? I don't believe that, so I'm sure Chiefs and Mahomes will come up with a solution that benefits the team, not just 1 person.

From what I understand, the salary cap increases every year? Not a major increase, of course.

That coin toss is bullshit . Something needs to be done so both teams have a possession in OT . If it ties again keep playing . They get paid enough

Very true. Personally, I'm hoping that he continues to do well, mostly just because I like watching a good game. But not too well, until after Brady retires.

Le’Veon Bell was a second away from signing with Pittsburgh two years ago and his agent nixed the deal. The hilariously poor economic decision for him to do that aside, remember these are 22-26 year olds being offering 10mil+/year, they get ahead of themselves, and a higher contract means a higher take for their agent. It’s up in the air. I’m gonna guess he takes a max deal, and restructures down the road like TB and BR.

Cap goes up every year by a small percentage. The league will likely lockout in two years and result in significant cap rule changes.

Le'Veon Bell didn't have the benefit of growing up around well rounded professional athletes (or did he? I don't know his personal history). Mahomes's father was a MLB pitcher for years and his kid spent a lot of time in the culture. Mahomes doesn't appear to be your typical 22-26 year old. He may have a voice of a youngin', but the kid talks like a leader. You can see it in every press conference he speaks at.

Speaking of Bell though.. dude should have gotten paid. Steelers did him dirty.

He’s still 23 and is about to be offered a max contract. I don’t care what your upbringing is - kid is gonna eat. His agent will push for the biggest deal possible, and he’ll sign. KC will have to lay it on the table that they can’t max out if he wants to win. I’m betting after this year and next year (same supporting cast, I expect similar numbers), they’ll make a huge offer to keep him.

Andrew Luck’s dad was an NFL QB, and now CEO of the XFL (after being the AD of WVU and some position of leadership in the Big 12. He took a max deal. Money talks.

Steelers offered to make him the highest paid at his position. He wanted flex RB/WR, nearly top-5 QB money. He’s also got injury and suspension issues.

He’s a total moron. He has to spend something like 7 years at a max contract to make up the money he lost from not signing. There are loads of financial breakdowns how he screwed himself over a principle that no one in a front office will support.

Also, James Conner put up similar numbers for the games he played. He isn’t catching out of the backfield as much yet, but they don’t need him to with AB/JuJu/dual TEs. Conner’s rushing stats showed that contributing factor to Bell’s rushing stats is a stellar offensive line. Bell’s speed, yards after contact, and big plays have all gone done year after year.
