its a Toyota truck and that's all the modifications needed
Just got my GEN1 frame Rust proofed by Toyota recalled had some surface rust, maybe they'll eventually do it to the GEN2 if enough people complain?

^This. Perhaps if enough people complain and perhaps if 2nd gen owners organize. And perhaps if the organized 2nd gen owners initiate legal action. Maybe a PR campaign against Toyota for frame rot.

The rust is my single complaint against Toyota.

A few more dollars spent at the factory on a quality paint and we would not be having this discussion.

It is 5+ years old. What are you expecting?

I swear, if not for the internet, people would not be concern about half the shit that is going on with these trucks and would be quite content.

What kind of rust are you talking about? Surface rust? Rust that caused holes in the frame? What?
    Show us some pictures?

If It's just surface rust you can sand it off to the frame, and paint.

Hmm... If I don't do any maintenance to my truck, some else should have to pay for it!
All frames rust. Wire brush and rustoleum, or naval jelly then trailer paint.

I just apply some heavy oil to the top of the rail. Just enough to slightly run douwn and seep into all the nooks and crannies. The dust builds up on it and creates a protective film. The oil -- un-used elcheapo motor oil has anti rust additives. It's worked for me -- it doesn't come of with the pressure washer. Best applied befor rust appears

Yeah I know -- more voodoo majic but better than all the thick waxy anti rust films that dontt seep into everywhere it needs to be.

Me too. I like Pecan pie and apple pie...and cobbler is very good too.

On topic...I had a little surface rust on my '07 near the front cab mounts. I sanded it down, primed/sealed, and painted it and the frame rails w/ spray on bedliner.

Rustproof your shit new and you won't have these problems, or you pay what you get for in used not rust proofed.

Got the "pro coat electric" rustproofing done at the dealer. Hope this stuff wasn't a rip-off and keeps the frame rust free for at least 10+ years.

FWIW, my 12 year old 98 4Runner pretty much has no rust, except for a few specks on the rear axle but none on the frame.
