^Thanks for sharing. Seating position is subjective so it's best for each prospective buyer to try it out individually like you've done. I find the Taco's high-floor, sedan-like seating position to be the most comfortable actually (I'm 6'0"), in comparison to the Colorado, Frontier, Jeep JK, and 12th gen F150.
According to Toyota's own data, 45% of Tacoma buyers go off-road, and typical mod spend is $3000-$8000 US. This sustains a healthy aftermarket.

The other thing is Canadian pricing does not track the US/CAD exchange rate, as that would be too volatile. I'm sure Toyota would like to sell the Taco at a higher price in Canada, too, but it would bring prices out of line with full-size trucks and other midsize trucks.

I think the Ranger will do very well. All the reviews I've read or heard have been very positive.
We'll have to see how the 2.3 ecoboost and 10 speed do in the long term. Plus everything else for the first year of the New for North America Ranger.

Thanks for the info by the way.

Not a surprise they mentioned the Ranger should have a bigger fuel tank. 18g fuel tank is ridiculous for a 2019 midsize.

I was able to drive the new Ranger yesterday while getting my truck serviced. A few thoughts:

Exterior: Im 50/50 on the design. I like the overall look but I wish it had more squared off corners and a had more of a rugged look. I will say this, and Ill add on my interior comments, it was very easy to see out of and getting in and out wasnt difficult.

Interior: View from the driver seat was really good. No bad blindspots that I noticed. But, the interior, and I have the same gripe about my F150, is very dark. I still love the SYNC system and I think its still one of the easiest systems to use. Factory wise at least. All the controls were easy to reach but again, the interior being dark drove me crazy. I dont know if its just me or not, but the interior felt a little smaller than my old mans 3rd gen. But part of that may be the fact that I drive a full size daily. The seats were more comfortable and the step in and out was better.

Drivetrain/Suspension: The big one. The turbo 4 was a blast to drive. The transmission was smooth and the power was great. Getting to speed on the interstate was flawless. Reliability is the big question mark. I have an EcoBoost so thats in the back of my mind as well but it is what it is. Steering was quick and never left you guessing where the truck was headed. I did not like where the 4WD knob is but thats just me. The ride was great. Nothing like my 2nd gen that I owned.

I think Ford will sell a ton of these. But the lariat I drove was 45k. I paid way less than that for F150. Even the XLT that was on the lot was still a tick under 41k. Thats a lot of cheddar for a midsize.

I completely agree with the CAD/US comment. I’m just a little surprised the difference is that high on this model. Usually there is an advantage to Canadians at the current exchange rate but that high is crazy.

If I were to ever go back to a mid size truck(Which I won't) it would be the Tacoma. If I am going to be in a smaller truck I at least want it to look tough.

Might be due to relatively poor mid-size truck sales numbers in Canada. In 2018, Toyota sold 13,878 Tacos in Canada vs. 245,659 Tacos in the US, that is 1/18th the sales for 1/9th the population. Ford may have worried that pricing the Ranger higher would relegate it to a niche product like the Ridgeline.

It's interesting Toyota continues to offer the Land Cruiser in Canada, despite only selling 166 of them last year.

It's official: The LGZ Colorado is still the fastest mid-size.

    https://www.motortrend.com/cars/for...871AA76E9594B126522EAB2C8C7A938F0C3310D61C086

"The objective numbers mostly attest to this for the Lariat model we instrumented. Hitting 60 mph from a stop takes 6.8 seconds, perfectly acceptable despite being nearly half a second behind a Chevrolet Colorado V-6. A 15.2-second standing quarter mile at 91.3 mph means getting on the freeway is no chore, though you'll still be chasing that Chevy."

I knew there was a reason they were dragging their feet with 0-60 times and 1/4 mile despite so many models in the wild.

My uncles dealership sold their first one yesterday. First pic was it on the transport and the second was the buyer standing beside it. I assume she had ordered it or was just really quick to snatch it up when it dropped.

I wonder if it was more like “sort of” fake news. Many stated that it was recommended at first to remove the front tire and then when a crap storm occurred over it Ford walked it back and said it could be done with leaving the tires on. I’d like to hear some real life experiences on it so I’m sure time will tell. I am sure a lot of newer vehicles have some hard to reach places.

Motor Trend just slammed this truck in their review. I think everyone likes the powertrain but I’ve read mixed reviews on the truck. I’m sure it will sell well because Ford knows how to sell trucks but MT stated, among other things:

"The Ranger, being the newest truck on the market, somehow manages to feel the oldest and least refined," road test editor Chris Walton said. "It feels like a '90s F-150."

Ford can’t be too happy with that review but this “all new” truck is actually a very dated global offering. I’d take the turbo 4 in a heartbeat but I do think Ford could have and should have done more with this truck. I was hoping they’d hit a home run and push the midsize market forward but instead they kind of offered a “me too” offering. To me any competition is good for this segment but I think Ford is deep down petrified of losing any F-150 sales so they made sure this truck was only going to be just good enough but not too good.

I honestly don't think it will cannibalize F-150 sales as the previous Ranger sold well without doing so.
