They add tarps to the hand wash bays on the upwind side up near me for people so it doesn't freeze in there.

 

There are 3 self serve bays (fully open on the ends) and they don't use hot water (bad design imo), they were all iced up. They have another enclosed automatic bay with brushes, which I'd never use.

 

It does have a nice aroma.

 

Yea, this one has 4 or 5 automatic touchless with doors and then another 7 or 8 hand wash that are fully open, but they do use warm water. Without the tarps though the spray carries out into the lot and nearly out into the street. No one would be able to use them and that would be less money for them.

Putting the seal kit in is very easy also, so you might save yourself $100. It looks like one of those that the top screws off on the shaft end. That will be the hardest part the rest will take 30 min. tops. You might take a file or just scrape a little paint off and see if the cap is aluminum or metal. The cylinder will be metal and if it’s an aluminum cap those can be a bear to unscrew (they like to grow together). If it’s a metal cap, it’s a piece of cake! Just pull piston out replace seals and o-rings, lube everything up good, carefully put back in cylinder. Screw cap back down and you are done. If the hoses are long enough you don’t even have to disconnect them. BUT MAKE SURE THERE IS NO PRESSURE ON CYLINDER WHEN YOU UNSCREW THE CAP OR BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN!

 

Minimum 2' thick insulated CinderBlock walls, you just might retain enough heat for a Car Wash.

 

I called Surplus Supply and talked to a Mike. He sounded very nice. He said the same thing you did. Get all the dimensions and give them a call. There is no cross reference and he knows they don't have a 2 x 5. But he said like I thought, depending on the retracted length a 2 x 6 would likely work. So what you said I need, plus he said (when I asked) I would have to measure the threaded portion of the line in the port with my micrometer and then try to describe the fitting type. Be it tapered, O ring, etc. I'm sure I can find some example online to compare it to to nail it down. The thread pitch has me worried though. NPT or SAE. He said that their cylinders typically last 10 years.

So, I have to decide if I want to try a rebuild on mine for around $65 (this would be the second time, the first was under warr with less than 4 years on it) or buy a new aftermarket cylinder for around $100 or so that will likely be better than OEM.

Doesn't retain any heat ya nut, just blocks the wind from making the bays frozen wind tunnels. Next to the car wash is a school athletic field and the wind whips through them something fierce.

And yes, I have gone in there, and had to spend extra trying to spray off frozen soap. Then to make matters worse, I get home from the wash and the doors are froze shut on the car!!!! LMAO

If you have a semi truck repair shop close or even most machine shops can help identify your fittings. Just make sure if you buy a new cylinder the ports are correct or larger than original. You can always find a fitting to use between the port and your hose. That Surplus Center has a lot of fittings as well. When I built the loader, hydraulic three point, hydraulic driven tiller, etc I got everything from them.

 

I wash the Truck at this 24hr. place usually 'round Midnight. It's Clean, Well lit & is excellent value if you know how to wash a vehicle right. Place is always deserted at that time of night. You can spend as long as you want to dry it. Automatics here have the huge blowers to dry but push water into doors & locks making freezing a PITA. Only use 'em if I fill up gas on a free wash day. From past experience, heated parking is the Nail in the Coffin if they Salt your roads.

 

Yea Mike said they might even have adapters. The lines are in good shape and have quick disconnects on the other end obviously.

I had them build my lines when I added the hydraulic motor to the snowblower chute. Maybe they sell cylinders.

It came with a manual stick you rotated by hand that got real old after the first two hours of blowing. I watched some youtube vids, found a motor and had the lines made. I made a bracket for the motor and created a flexible connector shaft out of a section of some extra hydraulic line, then I even cut more notches in the base of the thrower chute flange so I could rotate it 360 degrees (OEM for safety is about 220). I also have Auxbeam lights (4 pods) on the roof for night time snow removal.

 

Ours is like that too and they have signs that say no hand washing but if it is deserted they don't mind. I only go there in the winter though. Or when I want to wash my engine bay. Which you're not supposed to do there either but........

Some of the newer car washes around here have a dog washing setup.

When we first moved up to the country, I was much younger and use to cut it all with a JD21. I bought it because it was all I could afford, had an aluminum deck and a spin off oil filter with a near vertical oil pump. Our property is rather hilly. Then I upgraded to a used 42" Scag. Then a small JD GT, then a larger JD Diesel GT with a locking rear. This one is a small GT with a 3 cyl diesel and is 4wd. I have a 54" deck, 54" blower and a FEL for it.

So far, besides this cylinder I have had no issues. Knock on wood.
