I'm thinking of my next addition being a roof rack or roof rails on my Tacoma. I kayak and need the rails for a kayak carrier.

Has anyone purchased and installed one? I know toyotapartspeople.com sells the stowaway version (where the crossbars can stow away).

Wondering if they are difficult to install or if anyone has any tips?

    Thx.

not sure about the installation, but mine came with an OEM roof rack

    -no problems, seems very sturdy
-I love that the crossbars will stow to the sides when not using the roof rack, eliminates the wind noise

Thanks. I like that feature a lot as well. They seem reasonable also...about $235 with shipping.

If anyone has installed them, would love to get your feedback.

    Thx

I originally bought the Yakima roof rack a couple years ago but swapped it out for the OEM roof rack because I liked the way it looked and for the stow away bars when not in use. Installation was fairly simple. I think it took me about 45 minutes to do it by myself. I use them mostly in the winter time to pack around my snowboards. But nothing wrong with the Yakima rack, it was very sturdy.;)

I had a Yakima on a previous SUV and it was a great rack, but I agree with you, the OEM is a cleaner look.

    thanks for the feedback

I think that the OEM "looks" like it belongs on the truck, nice clean lines

    I agree.

    WW Firefighter (Danny),

What kind of tonneau cover do you have?

Its an Extang "tuff" tonneau cover. It isnt the priciest or fanciest one on the market but I really like it. Had it for about 1 1/2 years and no issues so far.;)

Thanks for the reply. Simple, Inexpensive is what I am looking for since I want to do the roof rack soon as well. I would like to have both by fall. I like to take my kids camping and I can carry kayak on roof and rest of gear in bed, Mtn bike on hitch rack.

I'm looking in the $200-$250 range on a tonneau cover.

    Thx.

Yeah I believe I got mine for around $225 w/free shipping if I'm not mistaken. I got one off of ebay a while back and the seller was having a sale. Check ebay out, I'm sure they still have some on there.;)

I have the same rack as firefighter. can carry a wakeboard(heavy) going 75mph no problems. Very sturdy. Easy to remove if needed
