Sent you an email via your contact form but figured I'd post here too. Any chance you'd be willing to share the STL files for the glove box letters to a fellow san diego taco / 3d printer owner?

I do not use IOS, android only here So i can't speak to apples desire to keep aftermarket cables from being used.

but I did find this link...

    https://obddiag.net/usb-power.html

this is only in the trial stage and has not been proven to work yet.

I get you on the prototype stage.

Thanks for the excellent info though.

These kinds of discussions bring me back to my childhood when my parents agreed that nobody was going to make them use unleaded fuel. They cut the cat and most of the emission equipment out of their '79 Malibu and had the filler nozzle expanded. They were tied to one sympathetic inspection station for the life of the car.

Clueless here too for sure electronics is not my forte. Can you teach me why there is a need for a inverter to step up ?
I thought usb is 5 volt..?

It takes the 12v from your car and steps it down to the 5v.

Ok what I thought, but that massive coil thru me off, while I’m looking at my tiny 3 usb smart charging cigarette lighter plug that barely fits in my hand..
couldn’t a circuit board do the same??
    Again clueless here, thanks.

It is circuit board, it has the ability to have 20amps on the output side. Which is a a pretty good amount of power. And therefore heat. So this circuit board has 2 heat sinks to help dissipate the heat.

With the ability to have 20 amps at the output. My plan is to use this and the power supply for an 8 way USB power supply with each port having the ability to output 2.4 amps@5v or run fewer devices at a higher amperage level.

Once the parts arrive I can bench test and verify if my idea works, or if it was a wast of time. I will also need to monitor for the heat generated. So I can get a better idea of how and where to mount the power supply.

With an adjustable output , I might be able to remotely mount the power supply under the hood for better airflow, and run a heavier wire harness to the under dash splitter section. And adjust the output to ensure no line loss.

Ah ok I’m getting it 8 way, more power will equate to more heat... hence the size of the board.
Was surfing the web for possiblity and found this so far but only 2 way

Received and installed the DMM today.
Thanks for the fast shipping and an awesome product!

Wish I would have got this a long time ago. Just need to get some plugs for the unused holes.

I used some bolts from Lowe’s. They are black so it blends well. You can also get the same ones from Walmart online. It only cost be $3 for 6 of them.

What size did you drill the holes and size of the screws? Wonder if I can pull this off with the diamond shape Ram Mount instead since I have one laying around. Thoughts? Also how strong is the magnet? Does it hold the phone well over bumps, during off-roading?

I agree with @4x4yotaphan as long as you get some black low profile screws they should blend in nicely. I am also looking into including plugs on future orders, sorry I don't have them yet.

I don’t remember the size for the holes or bolts, but I used this kit that I had from Amazon. I see you’re in socal... if you’re anywhere near Brentwood, PM me and I’d be happy to give you some so you don’t have to buy the whole set.
EDCarrying 440 Pcs M3 M4 M5 Alloy Steel Button Head Socket Cap Bolts Screws with Nuts Assortment Kit, Black Oxide Finish 10.9 Grade SN-440B (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072HJ4DC9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_BqQtCbPR03SQY

The diamond mount might work, but I liked that the square one matched the size of the Scosche quite well and the holes were in the corners where there wasn’t any interference with parts inside the scosche.

The magnets are really strong, I’ve never had the phone move or feel like it might fall while driving on paved roads. I doubt it would be a problem off-road either.

Thanks for the info! Unfortunately I’m a bit away from Brentwood. I’ll give it a go and start off with a shorter screw and move up in size if needed.

Almost made it all the way across the Mojave trail before the screw holding the ram ball to the dsm came loose and started a 20 mile horrible vibration / clacking sound. The iPad just barely started to spin into the dash. I will use a little more blue lock tight to resecure it. It was awesome having navigation using Gaia and 10 gigs of maps.
