I've been researching OVTune and it seems like a great product but most info is on supercharged trucks. What significant gains/advantages are achieved with a stock naturally aspirated 2nd gen 4.0L? Maybe @OVTune can chime in. Is it worth it if I don't supercharge the truck?

I am interested as well. I've tried to read through the thread but there is so much off topic it's hard to follow. Honestly the only thing keeping me from ordering is I haven't seen any real information on the NA tune.

Some experienced better shift points and a feel of better power delivery. The recent pages will yield some reviews of N/A applications.
Whether it's worth it or not is subjective. I think if I still had my 3rd Gen there would be no question about getting it.

That's what I found, 3rd gen is night and day but that's because it gets rid of the variability/learning transmission and makes it linear. 2nd gen doesn't have the problem of the transmission so I was curious to see what benefits besides being able to control things like throttle

If y'all are patient and give me some time and I'll post up Dyno sheets.
Providing in depth info on OV Tune via Dyno figures was my goal.
I understand there are a lot of skeptical people but I have been running OVTune on a different Toyota platform for about 4 years to great success. I was actually one of the first tuned Toyota ECU's on the 2AZ-FE.
From there Matt made the switch to other Toyota models that are unrepresented in the "tuning world", and He found a large segment in the newer Tacoma but needs more interest in the 4.0L to make that push for better tunes and options.
I wanted to wait to get headers and a Y pipe but might just do a I/E and tune dyno run then later on do the I/H/E and tune pull. We'll see come tax time.
I'll vouch for OVT, their tunes and products are legit.

What upgrades have you done to the engine? Or is it completely stock? What have noticed in daily driving?

I only have a URD intake and a Magnaflow exhaust at the moment.
I wanted to do a run with full bolt on with the tune because there are already dyno figures for everything from stock to full bolt ons. I figure I'd save on the cost of the pulls by skipping baselines. (base power doesn't typically vary that much from truck to truck all things being equal.)
But like I said, it will happen. Just give me some time.

I have the OV Tuned NA tune. My truck is AT. It has woken up the engine some. I don't have any dyno numbers. Shifting is great but was always good. It goes up to redline whereas before the tune it would shift prior to. I run the 87 octane tune and use 89 octane gas as I read that it is good to use the higher octane with the tune. I also have the 91 octane tune but I have only used sparingly. I have not done any mpg testing but will try to do so and update.

Is yours the v6? Hoping so as I also have a ‘10 with AT, am definitely staying NA, and am interested in continuing to run on 87 octane. I gave up on the other thread as it’s mostly SC tune info.

    Yes mine is a V6, I don't think OVTuned has a 4cylinder tune.

I'm also curious about this as well for an NA. I'm between this and a pedal commander, mostly for smoother throttle input off road.

I have the @OVTune NA V6 tune also...it’s definitely better than stock tune. Shifts are at better points and truck has better response.

He’s busy and this has been a long waiting process. Be patient.

Do you think it would be worth roughly double the cost of the pedal commander? I'm just weighing the options between the two for my next part to buy. I really hate the first 1/4 or so of throttle where it seems liker there is nothing then all of a sudden you have power.

Haven’t used pedal commander, so can’t say. BUT...the OVTune resides directly in the ECU...he’s the only one to break it open and reprogram it. All the others are add ons.

I do think that’s important personally!

I agree with that. Just curious if you have had to send a request for tune updates or adjustments? Thats something that makes me nervous about getting into the ECU and being as proprietary as it is, who else can tune it for whatever reason they do go out of business (god forbid). However I do like that the pedal commander can be unplugged and removed. But it doesn't change any maps besides throttle. I wished it was something more like the COBB stuff. I wonder what the dealer sees with the OV tune? Mine is still under warranty for a little while, though I really don't like taking it to them as I don't trust many people with my own vehicle.

The pedal commander does nothing but change the response of the drive by wire system.
(Think of it as a electronic way to adjust your throttle cable.)
If that's all you want then go for it.
If you want to make actual power by changing the fuel maps, advancing timing, adjust variable valve timing, transmission shift points as well as change the vectors of the DBW system, get the OV Tune.
