Yeah I’ve come to this conclusion. My issue is that the city I live in does NOT like people creating a mess. Plus if I washed my truck on my driveway I’d spend equal time washing my driveway haha. I do need to invest in a powerwasher though so I can add one of those foam cannon things and make my truck look like it got some...white stuff on it

Do I spy a new bike?

 

Very. In fact, I just walked in the door from a tour around the 'hood. (Ive already started mods with a new seat. Had to test it out of course!)

 

So I am now looking into finally getting regeared! My time has come to move on from the 3.73's after I had to drive home in headwind and was barely holding 45 mph without being at 5k rpm's. It's time for a change.

I have two questions for everyone who sees!
-4.56 or 4.88? I do not think I will be moving to a 37" tire for a long time (if I ever do), but the possibility is there when I graduate school in 2 years. I do drive a lot of highway, but I am thinking that with 4.88's it will feel better since I have all the weight added.

-I called around 3 local known shops and was quoted $1500, $1800, and $2100. All quotes included: Revolution gears "kit" + free locker install with a one year warranty. It's between having a shop do it or doing the work myself through ECGS. Which one would you choose? I guess doing it myself would be smart as I already have to replace my wheel bearing on one side and *maybe* remove shocks to switch spring rates. Or long travel, idk.

-Detroit TrueTrac or ARB lockers? I would save a good amount with Detroit.

-Front and Rear lockers, or just rear? I mean if I'm doing it once...

I'd do ECGS and see if the TW mafia is willing to help you out on the install. Id also do lockers F/R because you are in there anyways AND because dual lockers.

Id go ARB for the lockers but I don't really have a reason why.

Dual lockers...The thought of that is nice hahah although even without a rear locker right now I've been just fine. We did some crawling on the last trip where I was starting to struggle a bit.

Who knows though, maybe I will be dual locked haha

 

These questions have been asked a multitude of times and every aspect of the question has been analyzed. It comes down to driving style and preference.

Go @ECGS They have the best prices on 3rd members and its by far the easiest route. Plus, you get a warranty through them that exceeds any local shop. You have to tear apart the truck to get to the 3rd/clamshell anyway so you'll have the opportunity to replace a bearing, etc.

You can save a fair amount with a Detroit but for a daily, or anything you don't use as a dedicated wheeling rig, a fully selectable locker is the best way to go. Fully off when you don't want it to be, fully on when you do.

Just do the rear. Unless you want to start getting into some seriously technical trails, the money you would spend on a front locker is better used elsewhere. A rear locker will get you through 90% of anything youll encounter if you're not looking for it and won't cause additional stress on the front drivetrain/CVs increasing the chances of them breaking.

I would do a rear locker and spend the extra saved money on a good winch.

I have a rear ARB and it’s gets me through a lot and then for those times where I just can’t do it with the locker I bust out the winch.

 

I have universal bulb seal from Amazon all around mine, doesn’t leak a bit!

 

I have the Amazon one too - I find it leaks in very specific spots only with direct water hitting it (car wash). Other than that, it's pretty solid. I've still yet to seal off the bed as I'm waiting to redo my front seal. After that, I'll be siliconing all the holes then installing a carpet kit I have and going from there to start the interior build!

 

The wise have spoken I know Ryan did ECGS and you were telling me that was a good route to go when talking on the radios in Big Bear. Winch idea is good too - I talked with Shane about how my front end is just bouncing like crazy over bumps, so either I need more weight in the front or less spring.

I'm going to do another "quote" from ECGS again today to see what the total is. I think it was close to $2,200 or so last time with an ARB rear locker. I liked the TrueTrac as I don't want to have onboard air but I think it is nice being able to engage it with a button and it instantly clicks on. I could have used it on the last trip.

 

Look into the E-locker option. I think it’s Harrop? About the same price as an ARB after you purchase the compressor. Gives you a selectable locker via electronics as opposed to OBA.

 

I mean I do have my Viair 400p or something that I could turn into an On-Board Air Compressor (I think..?)

I'll look into it though, but if it's going to be nearly the same as the ARB in the long run then
