Anyone got a source for Spanish Cedar? Surely that's not something you get at a hardware store. I was looking on Amazon and some reviews were talking about how theirs came with mold all over it...

If you have access to a B&M store, you can buy empty boxes off them....pending how big you want your Humi.

There are some web sites out there that help with design...and prolly wood procurement??

I have a silverware box like this. (I'll have to grab an actual photo but it's pretty much the same thing.) Assuming I remove the felt lining and the blocking, I'll need pieces to line both the bottom and lid and sides? Wonder if I could ask my local cigar shop or some of the guys in my local cigar club if they have some old boxes I could cut down to fit. I'm half tempted to just buy a box of cigars and use the box they come in lol

Whoa, the ammo can ones are pretty cool. Same for the foot locker. I actually have a couple ammo cans, never thought about making one a humi. They're full of ammo so I won't be doing that, priorities!

I got my humidor from a friend that was up sizing, it was an extra he didn’t need so he gave it to me. It needed to be reseaoned cause it had dried out, once I got the humidity to stabilize it’s been workin really well.

    Some options...
You can get all the old cigar boxes you want for free at a cigar store. Many of them have cedar inside you can re-use.

Those stores also have heavy zip lock bags for cigars that come with a small humidifier bag that last six months and then you just get another small humidifier bag.

Nice humidors start at $25 at J R Cigars. Might not be worth the trouble to make your own.

All good info. Thanks all. I'll have to think about it some more. My issue is that I have a 5 stick herfador and I've been running out of space since both me and my wife enjoy a cigar every now and then. Me more often but hers take up space too. I see a good deal on bulk cigars and hesitate since I won't be able to keep them humid long enough to enjoy them all.

A tight seal is key.if you do not need anything fancy use a Tupperware container with a boveda humidity pack or a glass pickling jar with a rubber seal and a bobeda pack..

agreed..Just keep it out of the Sun and IN a cool (65-67% humidity_ controlled with packs) corner/drawer. (not in a bathroom closet or out in the shed, etc.)

Living at high altitudes like Denver , Santa Fe it will be harder to maintain humidity levels and easyer to maintain at sea level.here in the Florida keys it’s more about dehumidifing god provides a lot of natural humidity
