It’s the rpm’s more than the tires. I got 15mpg before gears, 12.5 after gears, same tires. But you’ve really just gotta decide where you want your truck to perform best.

Just because a gear ratio works for one person, doesn’t mean it will work for you. I first had a shop do 4.56 because that’s what I understood was good for my truck, however I hated the highway mpg with 33-34” tires.
That was because the ratio was keeping my truck in the higher rpm range around 65mph.

Dropped down to 4.30 and I like it a lot better. Keeps the option open for 35’s too.

Well poop. I’ve had nitro 4.88s front and rear sitting here waiting for install. I do a lot of highway, I just want to get up hills.

Yeah I understand the rev ranges. No one has said anything about the mpg hit until now.

i have 4.88s on 37s right now and its good for the mix of dirt and street, seems like it would be way to high if you plan to drive on the road a lot with 33s.

Yeah, right now I’m lucky since I carpool to work, but it’s all highway miles. Other than that I drive my truck everywhere. I’m leaning more towards 4.56

Not looking to get a DD for a few years, gotta save for a house now that I have my truck the way I want it. Yeah I’m 4wd and nitro gears are like 1300$ for the package so not cheap at all. The added torque from 4.88 would be nice, just trying to save as much mpg as I can till I do get a DD. If it’s not that much of a difference, then maybe I’ll just shoot for 4.88, but leaning 4.56 for what I do

Well as long as you don't mind filling up, but then again weight in the truck also can affect things too. I got sliders, skids, bumpers, and all that crap which I'm sure doesn't help my MPGs either...but with it being a daily I gladly appreciate just getting 14+ mpg or the occasional 15 if I drive slow enough.

I always keep thinking about Carey when I do long trips as to me the 4.30 gearing could be worth it...that said though, I think I could get away with 37s with 4.56's. Regardless, my truck is too much of a daily to want to throw on 4.88s unless I'm going bigger than 35s.

I have a supercharged DCLB and 4.56 gears. With the old 255/85s I could spin to the top of second from a dig and never felt short on power. Once stepping up to 35s, adding the Drifter and rear swing out it lost the ability to spin through the 1-2 shift and feels a bit under power when loaded up at elevation. When I step up to 37s I'll be going to 4.88s and a smaller SC pulley. With an NA automatic 2nd gen I think 4.56s are fine with 35s for those who are mainly in the desert and 4.88s are better for those who are spending time in the rocks.

If you are driving more than 250 miles a month commuting it's cheaper to lease an EV.

You really should look at an EV lease. I picked up a Volt for that specific reason and couldn't be happier.

Which LSK kit is that? I've been watching the build on SMP's IG, looks great.

Who tf doesn’t drive 250 miles a month? And even if that’s per week, that’s only a little over 1 tank of gas. So call it 5 tanks of gas a month for the truck at $60 a piece, that’s $300 a month in fuel. You’re gonna lease a vehicle for $150+ per month, plus another $70-120 per month for insurance, then you either have to pay for the electricity if it is purely a ev, or still have some fuel for a hybrid, plus wear and tear on a second vehicle now. Now I’m not saying it’s a bad idea, but not really cheaper, especially if you are still making payments on the truck.

My dd is saving me maybe $20 a month by the time I add it all up vs the cost of fuel for the truck, so yes, in the loooooong run you will see a noticeable savings, but not much month to month. For me it is a more comfortable ride for day to day use, and peace of mind that if I break something on the truck over the weekend, I don’t have to worry about getting it fixed before work on Monday morning. Or if it’s something more major, I don’t have to worry about having the money to fix it today. It can sit parked for a few paychecks to save up
