That's the first time I've ever heard someone say "it upshifts too easily". There is a whole thread hundred of posts long about them downshifting needlessly. I mean, yes, mine will up shift to 6th fairly quickly if I let it. Or it will nearly redline in each gear and never make it to 5th if I want to.

I have way too much fun with the K&N Intake.

I guess I'm just used to holding the RPMs in my 06 and shifting when I want to. When I mash the gas pedal easily, it will shift to 2nd and 3rd pretty quickly. When I want to pass, it drops and the RPMs jump way up, more so than just dropping a gear in my 06 MT. I think what it boils down to is, that maybe I just have to get used to driving an automatic transmission again. I have driven a MT Toyota in my last 3 trucks.

Yea, you are basically comparing apples to oranges. They will never be the same. Wanna blow your mind, go drive a CVT tranny. My Hybrid Lexus has a functioning tach when I switch it to sport mode. Not sure why. It just increases in speed from 0 to ......well, that would against the rules to endorse that kind of thing. But you wait for the shift and it just never happens. At least in the truck you can feel the little shifts. After a while you will come to appreciate your little 3.5 auto, like when your eating fish tacos and need to wipe the sauce from your chin.

I like sticks. I learned to drive on a stick, way back, "3 on the tree" style. I have a valid state motorcycle license. I drive with my hand on the shifter now in both vehicles as if they were Lamborghini's! It's a lead foot thing. But I drive in too much traffic and a stick would get very old very quick. It's definitely two camps of which are better, but it boils down to what you like the most and what is best for you.

Thank you Rob for the info! I've had this truck for about 3 weeks now and have only driven it to and from work. Haven't really had it on the interstate yet, but I plan to just baby it for the first few thousand miles and then slowly open her up! Break her in right!

Plus, I haven't seen any Access Cab Tacos in my area, much less in the Inferno color. I love it!

Sounds perfect! Nothing wrong with letting things seat properly and wearing slowly at first. You have a warranty so let the oil they put in do its job. A lot of guys go early on the first oil change. I didn't. A lot don't. It's a truck, but mostly, it's a Toyota truck! If you treat it right and follow the manufacturers scheduled maintenance it will last a very long time. Baring any unforeseen anomalies.

I can tell you this though. It was well before 10k miles that I had mine opened up. So......

Yea, I like a double cab long bed myself. It's definitely not going to be as nimble on the trails as a short bed access cab but that's ok. I will make do. From what we are hearing, the 18' will be the last year for the Inferno. I love the color. How often does an orange vehicle look this bad ass?! :headbang:

Hey thanks for your service by the way! :oldglory:

I don't think I've had it past 3500-4000 on the RPMs yet. I definitely have not had the pedal all the way down yet either!

You can take it up over that. Don't baby it, just don't kill it yet either. Push the pedal all the way down, just do it slowly, when it's safe to do so. Then let it up, then push it down. It's just like any other vehicle you've driven. It's just fresh and needs a little extra love at first. But once the honeymoon is over, SEND IT! As they say on here. :D

I drive mine all different ways. I don't want it to get too use to one type of driving style. I'm the same way with my cocktails. I never just drink one thing. I always mix it up!

Yea, I mean there are those that say these colors come back but it will not be any time soon. At least on a Tacoma. From what I am hearing. Which is fine by me.

Yep, one of the best colors made only a few years, but I'm o.k. with that. Our Rav4 is Hot Lava and they quit making that, and I got one of the last Inferno Tacomas here before that was gone. My CBR is orange and black and that was a one year color run for North America. I like having the limited colors I guess.

I haven't been very active on the 3rd Gen side of things for a while. I come back here though, well, because it's the Inferno thread! :muscleflexing:

Back in 06, I almost bought that metallic blue color they had and I haven't seen it come back since. I guess I'm just partial to the uncommon colors. This time, it was up in the air between the Cement and Inferno. The Inferno was a '18 closeout with the rims/tires and step bars, for cheaper than than the '19 Cement one. It was a no brainer, so Inferno it was. NO regrets!

My 06 with 298K miles on the factory clutch. It's retired to the garage until I can find the time and funds to put a new clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearings in it.

Phase 1 and 2 complete of 3 with project blackout.installed blackout decals on the factory wheels and replaced the factory decal with a black one.I had the bedside decal made a little smaller than the factory one. What do you all think? Next i am going to plasti dip the grille when it warms up.

Looks great! I did the exact same thing. Been going back and forth on the plastidip on the grille. I def want to replace it. Also if I can ever get the blacked out mirror blinkers I would be stoked. Great looking ride!!
