I believe that was one of the optional subwoofers that came with the 2009+ tacomas

I don't know whether the sub is JBL, but my '09 access cab has one with the plain non-JBL single disc head unit.

    Pretty much stock
Part of the optional sound system upgrade, the JBL system is NOT required to get the subwoofer. So don't think just because it has the subwoofer that it has the JBL. As a matter of fact i have it with my single cd radio, i don't even have the non-jbl 6 disk.

Double cab JBL sub is mounted behind the rear passenger seat back. Thank god Toyota didn't try to display that gaudy pile of rubbish in a double cab.

Comes with the JBL package. My 09 has the "flux capacitor" too.

When my truck rolled up at the lot and I saw that: "What the hell is that", "did I pay extra for that?", "will my truck be cheaper if you take it out?"...

I like it now. Speaker is ok, at least compared to not having one. And it is always a conversation starter when people get in my truck for the first time.

After getting tired of explaining it I just tell them it's a Flux Capacitor and drive off. It doesn't get in the way as much as you might think, I don't even notice it anymore.
