Tranny Service

Has anyone here had a transmission service done yet? I have an 06 DC with about 140K miles and I read somewhere that the recommended service should be done at 100k miles. Can this be done at a regular shop or should I go to the dealership.

I've also spoken to one dealership service dept. and the service advisor said that my truck has a maintenance free tranny and does not need fluid change. Now I'm really confused

Yes, the oil should be changed
The old recommended interval was at 90k-100k, it's now recommend every 60k-70k.
It's probably better if you take it to the "stealership" since they will put the correct oil in, they will use Toyota transmission oil.

Just make sure to use Toyota ATF WS.

 

I just checked with a local dealership and they want $280. Ouch!

 

I was thinking of doing th eservice @ 30k...overkill?

 

i did mine at like 12k to flush out all the break-in materials.

I'm not an expert, but I would say yes it's overkill for an automatic. But if it makes you feel better inside than do it, doesn't really matter.

Totally not what I thought this post was about...

no seriously, my buddy had his diffs and tranny done by a jiffy lube and he had grinding in the gears. Took it back and they still couldn't fix it. Dealer got a hold of it, put the Toyota stuff in and everything ran great. Not sure why the Toyota specific oil would have anything over the same type of oil made by a different company.

I have ALL the fluids replaced in my cars within the first few thousand miles. You guys don't know how many cases there are of cars being Under or even Over filled from the factory with oem fluids. And you know damn well when you get it flushed the dealer wont tell you " oh yea you were realllllly low on fluid "
