I haven't been able to ride MTB in weeks. We are in a historical rain year and having brutal freeze-thaw right now. A huge bummer considering annually in the Southeast we are able to round year-round

We’ve had this shitty cycle here too. Snows Friday, melts by Wednesday, then snows Friday, then melts by Wednesday. On repeat.
We can usually ride year round here in a Boulder too, but we’ve had a snowy year.
Oh well, time to go snowboarding!

Athertons creating their own bike brand and Evil dropping a DH bike. Nice

big day in the community! 180mm Boxxer WC is interesting... and that price tag is fucking bananas! $7,999 for what? they also conveniently stole "turn it up to 11" from Transition. come on, Evil!

Pretty sure that was Spinal Tap that Transition stole it from... :anonymous:

I don't really get the Evil park bikes. Seems they just made a nomad with a dual crown on it?

When it comes time to replace my Bronson, it'll be a hard look at Transition for me. Only downside is their bikes straddle the sizes I like for UT. The 160 big bikes are a little too big, and the 130 bikes are a little too small in the travel for what I ride.

    Better get both I guess...

haha fair enough... but stealing a line from a movie is different than reciting that same line from a company 2 hours north of you. that's precisely what it looks like... i'm confused

you're onto something with the nomad call out. $8k nomad with a dual crown that was stunted at birth. why the fuck would they put 180mm boxxer wc on there.

The other weird thing is the 29er has 161/180 and the 650B has 151/180. The later seems REALLY far apart in the travel ranges, and usually are bigger numbers than it's big wheeled brothers, but not this time. :notsure:

Looks like they tried to half ass 2 bikes to create new competitors in the park market, rather than whole assing a real DH bike.

Those Evil bikes are crazy progressive in the rear suspension. Even 151mm will feel like 200mm when the shock pressure is 250 lbs..
I think that bike would be fun as shit. Evil is making a brand of fun bikes but not necessarily the fastest. I can dig it

I should be working but OK.

Playfulness. The ability to "pop" on a bike and seemingly "throw" it around is not only realized through bike weight but really through the suspension. The progressive nature of Evil suspensions (vs Linear) allows the bike to stay very high in its travel in all conditions.

The pros of this are the "pop" and dirt-jumpy feel with the ability to climb really well. The cons are increased trail chatter and "tracking," AKA not holding lines through chunder. My old Pivot was the exact opposite; the Mach 6 stayed in mid-travel and rode like a DH bike through rock gardens but the side effects were climbing like shit.

But it's all about rider preference. I wanted a change considering the majority of my riding so I went with less travel, flat pedals, and more playfulness; perfect for the jump lines around my house. Versus when I was racing and needed all that travel to plow through shit when I didn't know the lines at unfamiliar trail systems.

I was just pointing out that I can find fun on every bike. Except single speeds. Those suck in both directions.

I def agree with all the points you made too. I had my fork a little too stiff when I did the whole enchilada this spring, and my forearms def paid for it. So many rock gardens... I got to a point where my brain was like "just let go "

I def gotta find my correct sag in my MRP before this season. It gets really divey when I open up the valving, so I think I need some more air because I basically have to keep it almost locked out to not end up OTBing if I jam on the brakes.

We got a lot of snowy trails around here too. Never gets warm enough to melt them out.

Does anyone have any recommendations on a good tailgate pad for a first gen?
I currently have a Thule pad, but it's designed for the newer style thick tailgates so it doesn't do much good for protecting my down-tube. Not to mention, there is no mechanism built in to strap down the bikes at all. I have to use a ratchet strap across the top and it will still sometimes slide around.
The inside edge of my tailgate is like a knife edge almost. I can predict that after some more extended usage with the Thule, it will wear the material super thin.

You can see the padded part with the side "bumpers" that is intended to sit on top of a thicker tailgate.
