Yea that's what I hear is the monotonous work really isn't that bad, drove me crazy at my last shop, but valves and hydraulics I liked working on and making parts for.

Probably would have. It's a 24" gate valve if I remember right, way up on top of the boiler on the 8th floor. That was at a trash burning plant in Niagara Falls

 

This is where the 4 of these valves were in relation to the 8th floor lol. They have the scaffolding in front of them

 

Wow, the size of those other gate valves . With the types of buildings we construct, a 24" valve is about as big as we ever see and even those are pretty rare.

I managed to screw up my timecard at work and didn't get paid for list week. That's going to be a fun call to HR. Happy Friday!

 

We use to do fuel lines that had both glove and gate for different components. We had a 24" that was 5 ft off the ground. Xx wall. W/300lb flange . Bossman thought it was a two man job....

Someone did the same thing for me when I was cross country skiing at a park. The guy was so nice and it was a Toyota that pulled my Nissan out of a gully, just left me with a great feeling that people like you are out there helping others.

I use to work with some big stuff, and small screw in type safety valves. The coolest stuff was testing steam safeties. The super heater Consolidated valves were awesome, some with set pressures around 3500psi on a 6" safety

Haha no. I need to have the machines looked over at in the inlaws shop. The woman's brother is a machinist but really only does programing and high end stuff. They've got a bridgeport and I'd like to say a lablonde lathe?

But I've decided I'm going old school. I'm going to make a super fancy case to put all my custom fixture tooling that I'll also make, in.

Was using a wicked hack tool today. Basically need to turn down a .375 rod to .325, bore a hole somewhere around .125 longitudinally, and thread the other side to 1/4-20. Then on a mating piece, I need it to be .750 round , maybe 3/8, tapped for 1/4-20, and have a ring turned inside of it to basically make a weld prep for me to weld to after.

Helps me set a rotation for a complex tube manifold in a fixture that has no indexing point.

TL;DR I need to relearn + add to my manual machining skills

 

So are you asking for help making the parts or just looking at the machines or asking me to make parts for tooling for you?
