From all the info I’ve gathered, I also suggest the 87 tune, that way you can fill up with either 87, 89, 91, or 93 if it’s available. If you don’t like it then flash to 91 and run 91 or 93 in the tank.

Now just to be fair, I do not own the truck yet to flask with my OVTune kit.

Good idea. I’ll try it for a tank and see how it goes. Really looking forward to this change.

I've always run the 87 tune for the same reason. I'll run better fuels if I can find them because the truck prefers them even on the factory tune.

If you have 87 in the tank now, just flash the 87 tune. I would probably run a tank of 91 before running the 91 tune, just to be sure there isn't any 87 left in the tank.

This one thing seems like a step down from 1.04
I could be accelerating up a slight incline and it’ll shift....

Just ordered and waiting for 1.05. I'm getting my fuel at Costco that indicates 92 octane. Which tune should one use with this octane?

There was a big difference for me. 87 tune wouldn’t hold 5th & 6th gear enough on the highway because of the lack of low end power. I’m lifted 2.5” on 285/75/16’s, and I’m sure I could’ve gotten away with 87 on the stock tires/height. Just depends on how your truck is set up.
In town, the 2 tunes felt very similar but if I put my foot in it, I can easily tell the 91 has more grunt.

91 is well worth the extra ~ $3 a tank for me.

Agreed. $15-$20 extra a month to have my truck run like a champ is well worth it. Cut out 5 energy drinks, or just use some coupons at the grocery store and it washes out.

I would assume running higher octane is better long term for the motor or does it matter?

I wish I only filled up 6 times a month. More like 4+ times a week usually

I’m assuming you drive a lot for work?

Hey, at least all those miles are in an MT :D

OVTune has saved my SR5 for now... but I’m still thinking of getting an MT TRDOR down the road

Correct. Did it in the auto for over a year. The MT is way better. It’s not even a contest.

The only contest for me is that I’d be spending $10k+ that I don’t have right now
    :spending:

I paid $24.5k cash for the SR5, but if I traded up I’d have to finance the difference right now since I’m a student now and only able to work part time.

But after a few test drives... I’m not sure if financial intelligence is the way to go anymore

Yup. At least once, maybe twice a week. That seems pretty normal to me. How many times do you fill up?
