At least your kid didn't panic in spin out or something, unless the junction box is what stopped him from doing so. :notsure:

Isn't that the truth, I have been pretty impressed with how well the Tacomas do in those unfortunate situations.

A wise man told me that if a problem can be fixed by throwing money at it, then it wasn't a real problem to begin with.

    Glad your boy's ok...that's what's important.

It's a shame the insurance game has gotten so out of hand. There was a time you wouldn't have even had to think about turning that it and getting it fixed..."that's what you pay us for", says the insurance man. But now it's a pretty weighty decision. And the insurance agent will flat out tell you "Well ya know...if you ever file a claim, we'll probably cancel you". They're not even shy about it!!!

Anyhow, bottom line, glad your son is ok. Ask yourself the 100 year question, fix it and go on with life.

If I had kids they wouldn't be driving anything of mine.

I can recall how I drove as a kid. Nope.

I took my dads 88 Full size GMC Jimmy that he had rebuilt for car shows out for a ride when I was 16...
*fast forward to later that night after my dad pulls up behind me 20 mins after calling him from some random persons house I broke it near...*
"You broke my fucking axle!! I told you not to floor it! God dammit boy!"

The rig had 550 hp to the wheels and he hadn't swapped out the factory axle for something that could handle the power it was putting down yet...
But... I just sent it...and SNAP!

Inner dialogue after seeing the rear driver wheel roll out and drop the rear end to the ground consistented of "oh fu*k Im so fu*ked... I need to leave the country... " there may have been some hopeless sobbing included in there as well.
Needless to say I never drove that thing again...

By my estimates the junction box must have been doing at least 35 mph to hit him there.
Glad he is good though. My son got in a wreck this morning too.

I totally get it. You love your children and you hope they come home safe. But if my first-favorite thing in the whole world came home to tell me that he hurt my second-favorite thing in the whole goddamn world, that boy better have a bump on his head to distract me from wanting to put another one there.

Question...wouldn’t slider just cause frame damage? That much force would have push the slider into the frame...and that is just south of the “boxed” section...so, that much force may bend the C-section frame??

With all due respect, I'm not sure I'd call that a "wreck". That is barely anything and should be a pretty cheap fix. And at least everyone is OK.

    Hmmm...

With all due respect, pretty sure by definition it is a "Wreck"... ;)

    Yep it's 100% a Wreck...

I am also glad your kid is OK, my kid just turned 16, he will be allowed to learn to drive stick in my truck, but only when I am present and in a controlled environment lol other than that he will be driving the 2010 Corolla :)

I said I wouldn't call it a wreck. To me, that ranger posted on this page is a wreck. I don't consider a dent to be a wrecked truck.

my dad always said "if your going to crash one of my cars you better right it off" im not sure if that's a threat or he just doesn't like dealing with body shops.

    Yep, definitley the magic words.
I've totaled 2 of my Dads' vehicles after he told me that.
Most recently (july), I (Tundra) was stopped at the mailbox delivering mail when the white SUV (approaching from behind) struck a vehicle head on, flipped on its side, and then struck me while it was sliding down the road. Luckily minimal injuries all around, I wasn't wearing a seatbelt and was sitting in the passenger seat so I hit the dash and was a little bruised up.

And the first one, 2017. Uncontrolled intersection, headed south at 55MPH with right of way, late 90's explorer turned across me (turning west from northbound lane) with almost no time to brake, hit them at 50, totaled both vehicles.
Explorer didn't have insurance, and 3 children in the back seat were not belted in, no major injuries but some of the children lost some teeth, unfortunately last I heard no citations against the driver for not belting in the kids.
