Unfortunately yes, it is very common with these batteries. Mine is leaking all over and all corroded. I just removed it and replaced it with a Northstar 24F AGM battery. They do not use a flooded type cell and are guaranteed to be corrosion free. Not only that, they are TWICE the Cold Cranking Amps vs. the stock Toyota (Johnson Controls) battery.

Okay, one of the first things you should do after a storm where salt is used on the roads is to wash that salt off ASAP. Leaving it on for a week or two will result in premature corrosion over time. Kind of a PIA with all the storms you've been getting on the east coast this year but necessary if you want the vehicle to last. Washing would include spraying down the engine area as well as thoroughly washing underneath the truck.

If your battery fails and you are unable to get to a Toyota Dealer then you can buy one and get reimbursed from Toyota

I was about to ask if I take the battery to a dealer or mail the receipt to Toyota. I’ll be mailing them my reciept. Going with a 27F AGM. Ordering a 2nd gen battery tray now. Thanks for the info!

You are probably gonna have to buy an equal replacement 24F for that to work unless the store is sold out, you would also have to buy it after Dealer hours as that plan is for emergency replacements.

Yes, you want to remove oxidation from both the post and terminal where they make contact. I prefer a battery brush instead of one of the tools that scrapes to remove material.

Well I was going to replace it with a 27f and get a 2nd gen tray but once I saw how much is was going to be I decided to clean the stock battery and put the money towards other mods for now. Most likely a skid plate

No matter how well you clean that post, if it's leaking gases (which it probably is) the corrosion will return. I had that same crap on mine and I cleaned it down to the metal, used backing soda to neutralize the acid and put the treated felt washer under the connection and in 3 months it was back. As I mentioned in another response, Toyota covered it under warranty.

Yep. I’ve done the same thing. If it’s gassing it will corrode. Nothing you can “fix” just keep cleaning it. The AGM batteries don’t gas because they are not flooded.
