So I love my truck, but I do harbor a few unpopular opinions, and thought I’d start a thread to collect these.

Feel free to flame or contribute:

Quicksand is just a fancy name for beige. (Although I dig it)

Approximately 99% of people who post about the essential need for a locking rear differential will never actually need it at any point during their ownership tenure.

Tacomas without lifts don’t really need step rails.

The coolest thing I will likely haul in the bed is a sofa. (The commercials that show construction cranes dropping equipment in the bed from a foot abound would never happen, and actually result the loss of a crane operators license)

    The bed outlet mostly useless.

    Hey OP
I need something in the rear end differential. A locker, limited slip or something like Toyotas brake actuated 'auto limited slip'.

I'm short. I need side steps to get into a factory stock SR.

Don't give a hoot about color.

I actually haul stuff. Dead deer, hay bales, chainsaws, tree stands, fishing gear, lumber, seed, fertilizer, etc, etc, etc.

All kidding aside, I love my taco as well, I have a few common complaints, but this truck has taken me thru 45” water crossings, thru Death Valley three times in these so called expert trails, around North America and countless other trails.

My biggest gripe is the radio resetting and shutting or turning traction control back on which drives me nuts.

Unless you're short. I could get by without mine but it makes it easier, and my girlfriend is so short she wouldn't be able to get in without them.

Every manufacturer uses colorful (goofy) names for paint.

    I'm in that 99%.

My wife likes the step rails while I don't, but they do keep some dufus in his pajamas at Wal-Mart from banging the door of his old retired LTD police cruiser into my door.

The coolest thing I haul is my Yamaha T-Max scooter.

I used the outlet last month for Christmas lights. The grandkids got a hoot out of it.

Rock on. My opinions are wildly unpopular. I haul stuff too, but the sofa is the coolest. No massive boulders or such.

The most common use for the bed in my truck, is for my Saturday dump run.

And the opinion isnt unpopular.. or, at least wrong....

I was gonna snag a blonde.... then, someone i know got one. And then i saw how POPULAR it was... went with MBM..

However I do honestly agree with your sentiments.

I wonder if most OR owners know how to engage the locker.

I got mine to retire my Jeep. I had minimum requirements

No different than any other vehicle that offers a locking rear. You don't think all those non-lifted F-150s go offroad do you. The zr2 is too expensive to damage so those are unused....and most Jeeps are driven by soccer moms.

But bro, what if that one cold dark and scary night, when you are driving down a road you never been on, and you get a flat tire, and you dont have a spare, and you dont have your HiLift jack quickfist mounted, and your phone is dead, and your window gets stuck open, and you run out of gas, and your Rotopax is empty, and you cant walk to get help, and you have nowhere to hide for shelter, THEN you will wish you had that damn tent!!

This. I negotiated the predator steps into my truck purchase this month. I quickly found I have no use for the steps and I step onto the ground instead of the steps when I get out. Looks good at least...maybe I’ll put on sliders later on or something.

Depends if you keep stuff in your bed (toolbox, gas tanks, hilift jack ,etc) But I get worried people will jack my shit if its just in the open. A little barrier helps. Still easy to get to it but atleast its out of sight. My 2cent on covers I guess.

See I just don't keep things in my truck unless I'm going to need them. If I was going off road, then I would put my big tool box in. But I don't need to haul that stuff on a daily basis.
