Toyota Brake Pads - Shims Required?

I'm needing to replace my brake pads, and plan to go back to OEM style this time around. The pads I'm planning to go with are the below P/N. These pads do not come with anti-squeal shims, though I see Toyota does sell them as OEM parts. I know some pads require the shims, others do not. Can anyone tell me if I need the shims for these pads? I realize at one point these pads came with shims, now they do not.

I would get the shims just because the fact u will keep the contact surface of the pad/piston from causing rust to build to leading to brake fading. ( what happened to mine )
Toyota use to sell the kit w/ shims, however the shims were not up to par and caused more issues them it should have solved. rust was getting behind them and also the shims were causing noise. Never noise issues on the tacomas because the pins held them in place, but on non pinned the shims would float and rub against the caliper bracket causing scraping noises.

you wrote you would get the shims... then later wrote they caused problems. Which is it?

 

Shims are 100% required, they don't create issues, if there aren't any the pads will vibrate and squeak on low pressure applications.

It doesn't create or reduce brake fade. It takes up the slack of the pad to rotor to piston.

That said, some aftermarket pads come with shims that can transfer to the OEM pads. You may have transferable shims, I do it all the time. Just make sure to use a non-petroleum grease between the shim and pad.

 

I would get the ones you posted. The ones i was saying to stay away from where the Toyota pad kits that came with shims, they are not the same ones u posted and the dealer I work for no longer sells them because of all the issues that we had from them.
