Transmission Longevity

What exactly harms an automatic transmission or shortens its life?

Is is hard acceleration or high rpms? Is it towing? Is it high heat?

I was just curious if there was anything I could do now with my new truck to avoid transmission problems down the road.

 

low fluid levels, unchanged fluid and filter, high output motor mods, improperly towing the vehicle or towing too much just to name a few

I swear by this!!! Everything tows so nice, no jerks or bangs. Just nice an easy. I've used it on 2 different trucks and my Taco loves it!!

 

High heat is the fastest killer of an auto tranny.

 

these pretty much sum it up, especially neglect to maintainence and high heat.

 

change your tranny fluid and u will be fine!

 

In other automatic transmission towing with overdrive on can damage the transmission. I don't know about the Toyota tranny but I suspect it is simular in design. I would investigate before towing and using OD with it.

 

The owners manual for my '07 2.7 says not to tow in OD.
