    Hey folks,

It's almost time for a brake job. Does anyone have any recommendations for some high quality replacements? I am not opposed to buying OEM, but have also have some good luck in the past with higher quality stuff from standard auto part stores. Just curious if there was some consensus on which to buy.

    Thanks for the help.

This thread will be like any other where there are many choices one can make. You'll receive many different opinions.

My choice for brake parts has always been OEM

Pads.....Worried about dust and don't care about initial bite? Ceramic of any kind

    Rotors..... Too many options.

Drive hard, be wary... I faded OEM, and 2 sets of brembo blanks and hawk pads.

Want great initial bite, not afraid of some dust and some noise? Semi metallic.

I've been running ebc stage 5 for years now and still hard on brakes, yet to fade these.

Flush ur brake fluid, look into some braided lines

No reason to replace your rotors unless there's an issue. If you need to...skip the OEMs. They're no better and often times worse than the aftermarket options. And any decent quality pad will be just fine.

2 year replacement warranty against defects and warping. You won't get that with OEM rotors. I'm about a year in with these. Holding up very well. Don't spend a bunch of money on high dollar rotors.

I recently replaced my factory pads after 105k+\- miles. Went with the TRD brake pads, and my factory rotors were still perfect. The pads are an upgrade in performance and have no issue stopping my heavy truck(35’s and steel armor).903235FE-3F35-480E-ACE2-981D9EE826B0.jpg

Upgraded to EBC Rotors and pads(green) recently and I'm really happy with them. Much better stopping power than stock.

There are only 2 stock sized rotors on the market that I am aware of which are an actual upgrade over stock. The StopTechs I linked in the thread earlier or DBA. All others are essentially stock replacements with no engineering improvements in the cooling design. Drilled rotors reduce mass and introduce stress points prone to cracking, they are not an upgrade.

Don’t go with EBC green stuff. That is an organic pad, it will have good initial bite but has the lowest operating temperature meaning it will be most prone to brake fade compared to other compounds. This is covered in greater detail in the thread I linked earlier.

OEM for me. I did a lot of research and still decided to stick with Toyota stuff.

The same shit everyone else has.
Factory pads & rotors lasted 70k miles. I did OEM pads and rotors when those needed replaced. Got about 50k miles outta them - still had some life left in em. Currently running Powerstop Z36 pads and rotors this go round. We’ll see how long they last.

I replaced OEM with EBC slotted rotors and greens pads, much better than stock. Had to replace the oem setup at 20,000 miles because the rotors were warped... the OEM rotors are worthless IMO

Thank you all for the responses! My rotors are warping and I just figure it is better to start fresh rather than getting them resurfaced. I am still on my initial set of pads and rotors and just rolled 80K. Pretty pleased what that. My pads are nearly worn out anyway.

I have always done my own brake jobs in the past. Anything out of the ordinary with Tacomas?

Not at all, very easy install! It was my first time working on brakes and I didn't run into anything unexpected

    minor tweaks
I suggest Brembo Rotors, ceramic pads, good stopping and no brake dust. Most rotors sold at autoparts stores are chinese which doesn't automatically make them inferior but they are often contracted to build them to a price point. When you get a set of those the steel will warp easier. You don't know if the supplier got them from china so it's a crap shoot but if they're really cheap pricewise it's likely you're getting cheap chinese rotors. 30-40K later you'll be cussing that decision. When it comes to rotors you get what you pay for.
